A 62-year-old American patient referred to as Mr F was evaluated for recurring abdominal pain and weight loss at the international medical department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University. The hospital’s May 30, 2025 report follows his English-language assessment, specialist review and discharge with bilingual follow-up instructions.

English consultation and inpatient tests

Mr F was from Seattle and lived and worked in Guam. He had experienced pain after meals for six months and had twice been diagnosed with pancreatitis in the United States. Pain relief medication had not resolved the problem. Eating less to avoid pain, he lost around ten kilograms. His wife, whose family was from Chongqing, brought him while visiting relatives.

Doctor Yuan Ying took his history in English and reviewed the records, including long-term alcohol use, poor appetite, weight loss and upper abdominal pain. She arranged admission. Within 48 hours, contrast-enhanced abdominal CT, gastroscopy under sedation, gastrointestinal tumour markers and cardiac assessment were available. The findings included chronic atrophic gastritis and a pancreatic mass. Gastric-protective and digestive treatment relieved the abdominal pain.

Specialists assess the pancreatic finding

The international department invited gastroenterologists Gu Sai and Deng Liang to review the case. Further imaging and endoscopic ultrasound were recommended, with a biopsy if needed.

Before the examination, doctor Shen Nan used a Chinese–English illustrated explanation of the procedure to answer the patient’s concerns and offered to interpret throughout. Deng performed the endoscopic ultrasound the next day. The finding was considered an inflammatory nodule, and the plan was to recheck it in six months.

Discharge information and international services

Mr F left after a four-day stay with bilingual review reminders. Nurses had also arranged suitable clothing, footwear and meals during his admission.

The department, on floors 17–18 of the Jinshan campus, describes English-speaking clinical staff, generalist management with specialist and multidisciplinary consultations, and 32 beds in single rooms and suites. It supports direct billing with several commercial insurers. The published bilingual consultation number is +86 18623389261, and the contact email is [email protected].
