A young Australian man received surgery for unilateral gynecomastia at Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital while visiting his father in China. The breast surgery team combined lesion removal with contour repair and provided English-language communication from consultation through recovery guidance.

A change noticed before a family visit

Mr Z came to China during the Christmas holiday in December 2025 to visit his father, who worked there. About a month earlier, he had noticed enlargement of one breast. It caused difficulties in daily life and social situations, as well as psychological distress.

He and his father were concerned about the waiting time and cost of elective surgery in Australia. After reading academic reports and receiving recommendations from Chinese friends, they learned about the Guangdong team’s work in gynecomastia and attended Zhu Teng’s specialist clinic.

Individual assessment and reconstructive planning

After admission, Wang Kun’s team completed an assessment. The plan considered both the condition itself and the patient’s wishes regarding breast appearance, combining minimally invasive surgery with plastic reconstructive techniques.

Zhu Teng performed the operation, removing the affected tissue and repairing the contour to preserve a natural breast appearance. The hospital described the case as treatment for gynecomastia, a benign proliferative breast condition in men.

English communication and discharge

The department’s staff communicated in English during consultations, examinations, preoperative information and postoperative rehabilitation advice. They also explained differences in care processes between China and Australia and answered the patient’s and his father’s questions about medicines after surgery and follow-up.

The hospital reported a rapid recovery and a stay of three days from admission to discharge. Before leaving, the patient and his family took a photograph with members of the treatment team.
