Clinical Nutrition
The Department of Clinical Nutrition is a clinical department integrating medical care, teaching, and scientific research. The department was established in 1958 and was one of the departments established when the hospital was founded. Since its establishment, the discipline has developed rapidly in clinical nutrition diagnosis and treatment, scientific research, clinical teaching, academic exchange, and talent team building. The department has a complete organizational structure and consists of three sections: the clinical treatment group, the enteral nutrition preparation room, and the nutrition outpatient clinic. The discipline currently has a total of 13 nutrition physicians, technicians, and nursing staff, including 1 person with a doctoral degree and 7 with master's degrees.
The clinical nutrition diagnosis and treatment services currently provided by the discipline include: nutritional consultation and guidance for common chronic diseases: such as nutritional consultation and assessment, and dietary nutrition guidance for patients with diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, etc.; nutritional consultation and guidance for pregnant and postpartum women; nutritional consultation and dietary guidance for patients with metabolic diseases such as obesity and gout; perioperative nutrition therapy, as well as nutritional risk screening, nutritional assessment, and nutritional support therapy for patients with tumors, cerebrovascular diseases, digestive tract diseases, and others; nutrition therapy for special disease conditions such as chylous leak, Crohn's disease, and ulcerative colitis. In addition, responding to consultations invited by clinical departments, providing patients with nutrition therapy plans and dietary guidance, and guiding the nutrition cafeteria in preparing various types of hospital diets are also part of the daily work. In recent years, the department has also participated in the development and implementation of nutrition support in the hospital's enhanced recovery after surgery program, while actively conducting multidisciplinary ward rounds with clinical departments such as Urology, Cardiac Surgery, and Oncology, providing individualized enteral nutrition therapy and preparation and individualized dietary guidance, thereby providing strong support for patients' recovery. In addition, in response to the Healthy China 2030 plan, while actively providing clinical nutrition therapy for patients, our department also actively carries out the popularization of grassroots nutrition knowledge and goes into communities to conduct nutrition education.
The discipline currently mainly undertakes theoretical teaching and observation-practicum courses in Clinical Nutrition and Sports Nutrition, as well as clinical internship supervision, for the undergraduate Nursing and Rehabilitation Medicine programs at Zhongshan College of Dalian Medical University. At the same time, it is actively carrying out reforms in curriculum development and teaching, assessment and evaluation, etc., and adding online courses and online-assisted teaching methods. The average teaching load is approximately 120 class hours per academic year. Director Zhou Yun of the discipline, serving as editor-in-chief and contributing editor, has participated in compiling and published 2 textbooks by People's Medical Publishing House: «Clinical Nutrition» (for undergraduate nursing-related programs) and «Clinical Nutrition Diagnosis and Treatment Techniques» (standardized training textbook for resident physicians).
