Nutrition
The Department of Clinical Nutrition was established in 1996. It is a medical technology department, managed by the Medical Affairs Department and led by the hospital’s medical director. The department currently has 6 full-time clinical nutritionists, including 1 with an associate senior professional title and 5 with intermediate professional titles. Among them, 2 hold doctoral degrees, 3 hold master’s degrees, and 1 holds a bachelor’s degree. The department primarily provides diagnosis and treatment for patients with cancer complicated by malnutrition and nutrition-related metabolic diseases. It specializes in individualized nutritional diagnosis, treatment, and management for patients during the perioperative, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and rehabilitation stages of cancer care. The Department of Clinical Nutrition has a nutrition specialist outpatient clinic and a general outpatient clinic. It is responsible for nutritional consultations for inpatients throughout the hospital, health education, the design and quality control of therapeutic diet menus, as well as teaching and scientific research. The department uses nutritional risk screening (NRS2002), the malnutrition assessment tool (GLIM), 24-hour dietary surveys, multiple laboratory tests (including complete blood count, blood biochemistry, seven anemia-related tests, and inflammation- and immunity-related indicators), bioelectrical impedance analysis for human body composition, and other methods to conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments of patients, and develops individualized nutritional plans for patients based on nutritional diagnoses. The Department of Clinical Nutrition leads or participates in multiple scientific research projects, including studies on the effects of early nutritional and psychological support on clinical outcomes in patients with advanced gastroesophageal cancer; the effects of standardized nutritional support on postoperative complications in perioperative patients; and premarketing clinical studies of foods for special medical purposes formulated for patients with cancer. The resulting work has been published in nationally authoritative journals such as JCO. Members of the Department of Clinical Nutrition have published more than 50 papers related to cancer nutrition. They have served as chief editors of the Handbook of Home Nutrition Guidance for Patients with Cancer and as contributing editors to nearly 20 nutrition monographs, guidelines, and consensus documents, including the Encyclopedia of Chinese Nutritional Science and Dietary and Nutritional Recommendations for Chinese Patients with Cancer. Every year, they regularly publish column articles in the Journal of Cancer Rehabilitation and conduct health education in various formats through platforms such as the “Cancer Nutrition Q&A” public account. They have participated in the revision of multiple guidelines, including the update of the CSCO Guidelines for Cancer Nutrition and the CSCO Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Cancer Cachexia. Members of the Department of Clinical Nutrition hold positions in multiple first-tier academic nutrition organizations, including serving as committee members of the Cancer Nutrition Professional Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association and the Cancer Nutrition Professional Committee of the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology, as deputy director of the Cancer Nutrition Branch of the Chinese Nutrition Society, as committee members of the Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, and as advisers to the China Clinical Nutrition Network.
