Peking Union Medical College Hospital’s International Medical Service at the Dongdan Campus held its “Discover PUMCH” open day on the afternoon of July 17, 2026. More than 30 guests from foreign embassies and consulates, businesses, institutions and the media attended. The hospital’s July 23 report described not only the visits and health consultations, but also the clinic schedules, inpatient options, English support and insurance arrangements available through its international service.
Outpatient, emergency and inpatient care
The Dongdan international service operates separate outpatient and emergency departments and inpatient wards, including private rooms and suites. Clinic options include daytime, evening, weekend and senior expert sessions. Care follows a multidisciplinary model drawing on the hospital’s clinical specialties.
Guests visited the international Endoscopy Center, Health Management Center and inpatient wards, as well as the National Facility for Translational Medicine. The tour covered clinical translation, standardized care pathways and the patient environment, rather than focusing solely on individual diagnostic or treatment devices.
English support and insurance direct billing
The international service says English is available throughout the care process and that it has direct billing arrangements with international commercial insurers. During the question-and-answer session, guests discussed long-term chronic disease management, insurance direct billing and the process of seeking care as an international patient. Language communication, treatment and payment support were therefore presented as parts of the same care pathway.
PUMCH says its international medical services have treated patients from more than 200 countries and regions. Tian Zhuang, director of the Dongdan international service, said the department would continue to refine the international patient pathway and strengthen support before and after treatment. These were described as priorities for further improvement.
Multidisciplinary and integrative care
The event also introduced integrated Chinese and Western medicine in chronic disease care, sleep problems, weight management and supportive cancer care. TCM department director Wu Qunli said the department runs 12 integrated clinics and participates in nine multidisciplinary teams, including work in diabetes, oncology, Parkinson’s disease and rare diseases. It is leading the establishment of a Sleep Medicine Center, which the report described as being developed.
Demonstrations included herbal heat-pack therapy, acupuncture and auricular acupoint therapy. Health talks covered TCM constitutional approaches to weight management and standardized diagnosis and treatment of thyroid nodules. Guests also took part in individual health consultations.
