An international patient underwent rotator cuff repair at Beijing Chaoyang Hospital and received English-language support from assessment through rehabilitation. The hospital's October 5, 2025 account describes practical communication arrangements used by its joint and sports medicine team.

Assessment and the surgical discussion

The patient had experienced recurring problems from a rotator cuff injury before seeking care at the hospital's bone disease centre. Senior physician Wen Liang assessed the case and organized a team review.

The team used English to discuss the preoperative assessment and explain the proposed surgical plan. The same language support continued into postoperative rehabilitation, rather than ending once the operation had been completed.

The hospital reported that the repair was performed successfully.

An illustrated manual and hands-on instruction

For recovery, staff prepared an individualized rehabilitation education plan entirely in English. An illustrated manual set out the key elements of joint range-of-motion training and muscle-strengthening exercises.

Medical and nursing staff also demonstrated each movement in person. They guided the patient through the appropriate use of force and the required movement technique, complementing the written and visual instructions.

At discharge after rehabilitation, the patient said that communication had been clear from the first consultation through the inpatient stay. He described the team's explanations and patience as reassuring.

Bilingual materials for several orthopedic conditions

The joint and sports medicine service said it had developed a bilingual education process covering preoperative discussion and postoperative rehabilitation. Standardized Chinese and English materials were already available for rotator cuff injury and for knee and hip replacement.

The hospital described its staff as able to take histories, explain conditions and provide health guidance in both languages. In this case, the English manual and bedside demonstrations formed part of the patient's recovery support before discharge.
