Nutrition
【Department Establishment History】 The Department of Nutrition was established in 1995 and initially was mainly responsible for therapeutic dietary services for inpatients. Since 2018, the department has gradually transformed from a logistics support department into an independent clinical department, fully participating in the clinical decision-making process and becoming an important component of the comprehensive disease-treatment system. 【Department Honors】 The department has received numerous national- and provincial-level honors, including “National Pilot Institution for the Development of Clinical Nutrition Departments,” “Demonstration Base for Non-Pharmacological Weight Management,” “Innovative Institution for the Development of Smart Hospital Nutrition Education and Services,” “Demonstration Institution for Standardized Outpatient Diagnosis and Treatment of Weight Management,” “Special Contribution Award of National Nutrition Week,” and “First Prize in the Aseptic Operation Skills Competition for Enteral Nutrition Preparation,” among others. 【Department Leadership】 Director Zeng Yaochi serves as the person in charge of the department and has overall responsibility for all departmental work. 【Research Scope】 The department is committed to clinical nutrition diagnosis and treatment, research, and teaching in the areas of nutritional support for critically ill patients; perioperative nutritional therapy; oncology nutrition; nutritional management of chronic metabolic diseases (diabetes, obesity, hyperlipidemia, gout, etc.); nutrition for pregnant and postpartum women and children; geriatric nutrition; and clinical nutrition diagnosis and treatment for patients with various types of malnutrition. 【Department Services】 The department focuses on operating outpatient clinics for weight management and chronic disease management, establishing an integrated “consultation–follow-up–home care” service model to improve the quality of patient management throughout the entire process. At the same time, it actively promotes the integration of nutrition and traditional Chinese medicine, combining nutritional therapy with traditional Chinese medicine-based regulation to form a full-cycle health-service pathway of “screening–prevention–treatment–rehabilitation–management.” The department covers the entire process of nutritional risk screening, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for inpatients, and participates in difficult-case discussions and multidisciplinary collaboration for level-IV surgeries. It has an enteral nutrition preparation room where individualized nutritional preparations can be made to meet the nutritional-treatment needs of critically ill patients. The department undertakes teaching tasks for interns and trainees, and organizes continuing education programs every year. In addition, it has participated in developing industry standards such as the “Shenzhen Nutritional Treatment Protocol for COVID-19” and the “Expert Consensus on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Hyperhomocysteinemia.” It actively develops new technologies and projects in nutritional therapy, has participated in compiling several professional works, including Clinical Nutrition Management and Practice, Treatment of Obesity, and Clinical Nutrition Management, and undertakes multiple research projects. At present, the department is participating in the five-year “Prospective Multicenter Cohort Study of the Chinese Weight-Loss Population,” led by the First Affiliated Hospital of the University of Science and Technology of China. In the future, the department will aim to build a “Regional Clinical Nutrition Diagnosis and Treatment Center,” promote the deep integration of clinical nutrition with various clinical specialties, take evidence-based nutrition as its foundation, be guided by patient needs, practice the concept that “nutrition is treatment,” and establish an “individualized, refined, and whole-course” clinical nutrition service system, contributing professional expertise to patient recovery and the health of the entire population. 【Department Group Photo】
