Shenzhen People’s Hospital opened its International Medical Department on January 11, 2026. The service combines outpatient consultations, inpatient care and dedicated examinations, with arrangements intended for international patients and people from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

Inpatient facilities and an established cross-border role

The new department’s wards have private bathrooms, sofas, wardrobes and desks. Its care processes are designed around international patients’ habits, bringing consultations, admission and examinations into a coordinated service.

The hospital’s cross-border work predates the new department. In 1984 it established a Hong Kong and Macao ward serving those communities, overseas Chinese and foreign visitors.

General medicine and specialist care

The department operates through both the hospital’s general-medicine and specialist platforms. The opening account identifies hepatobiliary disease, digestive conditions, lung disease and neurological care among its clinical areas.

Its wider hospital base includes six nationally designated key clinical specialties and 18 provincial ones. The report also describes established visiting-surgeon operating activity in thoracic surgery, including collaboration with Diego Gonzalez Rivas.

A neurological disease diagnosis and treatment centre was established at the opening event in cooperation with Tianjin Huanhu Hospital.

A multilingual healthcare volunteer team

More than 30 doctors and nurses had joined the department’s language volunteer team. Their language skills include English, Cantonese, Japanese and Korean; many had overseas study or international exchange experience.

The announced support covers appointment registration and treatment questions, accompaniment during examinations and rehabilitation guidance. The team is intended to help Hong Kong, Macao and international patients communicate through these stages of care.

Overseas-insurance settlement

Shenzhen People’s Hospital reports cooperation with several domestic and overseas high-end medical insurers. Through these partnerships, it offers direct settlement for overseas medical insurance to foreign patients and patients from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
