Clinical Nutrition

The Department of Clinical Nutrition of Peking University People's Hospital is a medical technical department under the management of the Vice President in charge of medical affairs. Its predecessor was the Department of Nutrition, established in 1953 and officially renamed the Department of Clinical Nutrition in February 2010. The department currently has 10 professional and technical staff members, including 6 nutrition physicians and 4 nutrition technicians; 2 with senior professional titles, 5 with intermediate professional titles, and 3 with junior professional titles; 2 with doctoral degrees in nutrition and 4 with master's degrees in nutrition. The department follows all hospital rules and regulations, emphasizes scientific management, strengthens team awareness, enhances humanistic development, and consistently seeks a path of harmonious development in which medicine, education, and research promote one another. It has now built a nutrition professional team integrating distinctive diagnosis and treatment with health education.

Through the joint efforts of all department members, in 2010, the department won first place in the «Beijing Health System Hospital Nutrition Therapy Skills Competition»; in 2011, it was named a «China Clinical Nutrition Demonstration Unit» by the Chinese Nutrition Society. The Department of Clinical Nutrition of Peking University People's Hospital is a clinical department that conducts nutritional diagnosis through nutritional risk screening and assessment for patients with nutrition and metabolic diseases (including malnutrition) caused by various reasons, and provides individualized nutritional treatment using medicines, foods for special medical purposes, and therapeutic diets. The department currently carries out 7 major services: 1）Nutrition outpatient services (specialist clinics, specialty clinics, joint clinics, and community clinics); 2) Inpatient nutrition consultations; 3) Nutritional risk screening and nutritional assessment; 4) Nutrition research; 5) Nutrition teaching; 6) Nutrition health education; 7) Inpatient dietary management.

In the future, we will continue to take the hospital motto, «Benevolence, forgiveness and universal love; wisdom and excellence; integrity and purity», as our guiding light, continuously improve diagnosis and treatment systems, innovate diagnostic and therapeutic methods, enhance patients’ medical experience, and provide high-quality medical nutrition services to more patients.
