Breast Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment and Breast Reconstruction Center
The center incorporates breast cancer treatment and breast reconstruction simultaneously into the diagnostic and treatment plan, while considering the safety of oncologic treatment and assessing at an early stage the need for breast-conserving treatment, immediate or delayed reconstruction, postoperative contour restoration, and functional rehabilitation. For patients who have already completed breast cancer surgery or comprehensive treatment, secondary reconstruction and contour optimization options can also be further assessed. DIEP autologous tissue breast reconstruction is a core technology of the center and is jointly performed by the breast surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, and microsurgery teams, with coordination with anesthesia, nursing, and postoperative rehabilitation management. The center also provides breast screening, minimally invasive rotary-cutting procedures, autologous fat grafting, lymphedema management, and upper-limb functional rehabilitation, taking into account breast disease diagnosis and treatment, bodily integrity, and long-term quality of life. Our clinical physicians: Su Fengxi, Chief Expert of the Breast Oncology Center and Chief Physician; Tan Luyuan, Head of Breast Surgery; Li Anhua, Ultrasound Physician, Chief Physician, and Director of Ultrasound Medicine at United Family Healthcare; Guo Yunjie, Physical Therapist. Center Highlights DIEP-based autologous tissue breast reconstruction DIEP autologous tissue breast reconstruction is one of the technically demanding microsurgical procedures in the field of post-breast-cancer reconstruction. The center can assess immediate or delayed DIEP reconstruction plans for suitable patients, use the patient's own lower abdominal skin and fat tissue to shape the breast, and reconstruct the tissue blood supply through microsurgical vascular anastomosis, while preserving the rectus abdominis structure as much as possible and taking into account breast contour, feel, abdominal wall function, and long-term quality of life. This type of surgery has high requirements for breast tumor treatment, perforator flap design, microsurgical vascular anastomosis, anesthesia management, and postoperative flap monitoring, and is suitable for performance on a multidisciplinary platform. Synchronous planning of breast cancer treatment and reconstruction Breast reconstruction should be incorporated into the overall breast cancer treatment plan as early as possible. During the pre-treatment stage, the center can simultaneously assess the surgical approach for breast cancer, the possibility of breast conservation, the timing of reconstruction after total mastectomy, subsequent radiotherapy and chemotherapy arrangements, and postoperative recovery needs, helping patients understand before treatment begins the effects of different options on tumor control, breast contour, postoperative recovery, and quality of life. For patients who have completed surgery or comprehensive treatment at another hospital, the center can also provide assessment for delayed reconstruction, secondary repair, and contour optimization. Postoperative functional rehabilitation and lymphedema management After breast cancer surgery and axillary treatment, some patients may experience upper-limb swelling, a feeling of heaviness, limited shoulder-joint movement, scar tightness, pain, or postural compensation. The center incorporates rehabilitation assessment into postoperative management; breast surgery, rehabilitation therapy, nursing, and relevant specialties jointly determine the recovery stage and provide shoulder-joint range-of-motion training, upper-limb functional training, scar and pain management, posture adjustment, and guidance on home exercises. For patients who have undergone axillary lymph node dissection, regional lymph node radiotherapy, or who already show signs of lymphedema, further risk screening, stage assessment, and long-term management can be provided. Breast health screening and minimally invasive rotary-cutting techniques The center also covers screening and assessment of breast nodules, breast masses, imaging abnormalities, and high-risk populations. For eligible benign breast masses, breast minimally invasive rotary-cutting assessment and treatment can be performed, treating the lesion while reducing incisions and scarring. For patients with an unclear diagnosis or imaging suggesting higher risk, the center can coordinate imaging, pathology, and breast surgery assessments to clarify recommendations for follow-up, biopsy, or surgical treatment. Fat reconstruction and breast aesthetic optimization The center places importance on morphological integrity and bodily sensation after breast treatment. For localized defects after breast-conserving surgery, reconstruction after total mastectomy, secondary adjustments after DIEP or other reconstruction procedures, breast asymmetry, localized depressions, and scar problems, individualized optimization can combine autologous fat grafting, local repair, and breast aesthetic design. This service is provided on the premise of oncologic treatment safety and helps patients improve postoperative contour, symmetry, and quality of life.
