Zhongshan Hospital affiliated with Xiamen University has described how its international medical department coordinates outpatient visits, health examinations, hospital admission and direct billing with commercial insurers. The September 8, 2026 update, published by Fujian’s health commission, accompanied the hospital’s participation in the China International Fair for Investment and Trade.
A department covering several stages of care
The international department opened in June 2025. Hospital president Yin Zhenyu described a model with designated staff taking responsibility, following the care process and integrating its management. Its one-stop services cover both outpatient needs and inpatient treatment, as well as health checks and insurance billing.
By August 2026, the department had received 1,007 patients from 26 countries. Countries named in the account included Italy, the United States, South Africa, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Egypt and Russia.
Language support and remote consultation
The hospital has precision medicine and microecology centres, four nationally designated key clinical specialties and 15 provincial key clinical specialties.
More than 60 hospital doctors and nurses have overseas study or visiting experience. The hospital provides multilingual services.
Through cooperation with hospitals, universities and research institutions in China and abroad, it can connect with international specialists for remote consultations. These consultations are used to develop plans for difficult, severe and rare conditions, linking outside expertise with the hospital’s clinical services.
Clinical equipment
In 2026, the hospital introduced radiotherapy equipment called “Shuangxuan Dao” for treating tumours at different body sites. It also has a da Vinci Xi surgical robot for complex operations.
