A 56-year-old Bangladeshi patient who had suffered repeated myocardial infarctions since September 2025 underwent surgery at Yunnan Fuwai Cardiovascular Hospital after referral through a newly established joint clinic. The Yunnan Foreign Affairs Office’s January 16, 2026 report identifies him as the first patient transferred through that mechanism.
Assessment through the Dhaka joint clinic
The China–Bangladesh Cardiovascular Joint Clinic opened in Dhaka on December 2, 2025. Yunnan Fuwai Cardiovascular Hospital and Bangladesh’s National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases established it to link local care, remote collaboration and cross-border referral.
The patient had a complex condition and had sought care at several local facilities without a satisfactory resolution. After learning about the joint clinic, he received a comprehensive assessment by Yunnan Fuwai specialists Guo Yulong and Tang Yongyan. They concluded that he needed surgery promptly, and the referral process began.
Preparing documents and a hospital bed
Medical social workers helped arrange medical certificates and visa procedures. They also reserved an inpatient bed before his journey, connecting the administrative preparations with the receiving hospital’s care arrangements.
After arriving at Yunnan Fuwai, the patient completed detailed inpatient investigations. The coronary heart disease centre discussed his case, and the hospital reviewed the plan. A team including Pan Jiahua, Yang Hongbo and Tang Yongyan performed the operation.
Continuing assessment and practical support
The government report describes a good postoperative recovery followed by discharge. During the hospital stay, doctors and nurses repeatedly assessed his condition and provided structured clinical care.
Support also covered daily life away from home. The hospital canteen prepared halal meals, while medical social workers helped with difficulties he encountered during his stay in another country. Before discharge, the patient wrote a thank-you letter recognising the joint clinic’s referral pathway and the medical team’s care.
