Phase I Clinical Ward
The Phase I Clinical Trial Ward of Peking University Cancer Hospital was established in 2014 and is one of the earliest clinical centers in China dedicated to advancing the early development of innovative anticancer drugs. The ward is committed to rapidly advancing the clinical development of innovative anticancer drugs and promoting disciplinary development through clinical research. The Phase I Clinical Trial Ward has 15 regular inpatient beds and five outpatient units operating on a regular basis each week. The department has strong professional and technical capabilities; it manages more than 200 early-phase clinical studies, has received over 10,000 patient visits from across the country, and has helped multiple innovative anticancer drugs, including disitamab vedotin, envafolimab, and sugemalimab, obtain marketing approval. It has extensive clinical trial experience with emerging anticancer therapies, such as cell therapy, oligonucleotide drugs, and oncolytic viruses, and ranks among the top institutions nationwide. In addition, the ward’s professional nursing team members all hold GCP qualifications and basic emergency-care skills, providing patients with comprehensive safety assurance throughout the entire process. The department comprises 2 chief physicians, 2 deputy chief physicians, 1 associate research fellow, 4 attending physicians, 1 doctoral supervisor, and 1 master’s supervisor. Research findings have been published in leading international journals such as The Lancet, Nature Medicine, and Journal of Clinical Oncolog. The department also undertakes several key projects funded at the national level, by the Ministry of Science and Technology, and by the former Medical Administration Bureau, and has established collaborative projects with multiple national key research institutions, comprehensively promoting the steady development of early research on new anticancer drugs across multiple dimensions, disciplines, and fields. The team has always adhered to a patient-centered approach, continuously optimizing and innovating around key aspects of clinical research on new anticancer drugs, and has established a complete research system spanning target screening, preclinical evaluation, and early-phase clinical trials. Relying on the hospital’s strong multidisciplinary collaboration platform, it has established standardized biobanks and data management systems, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent translation of research findings and accelerating the advancement of China’s domestically developed innovative drug research and development toward internationally advanced levels.
