Health Management Centre
Established in 1996, the Health Management Centre of Dongguan People's Hospital is a professional health management service established relatively early among Dongguan's public Grade III Class A hospitals, with a well-developed system and wide service coverage. Relying on the hospital's strong comprehensive medical capacity as a public Grade III Class A hospital, the centre has worked intensively across the whole service chain of health examinations, risk assessment, chronic disease intervention, health education and green channels for accessing care. After more than 20 years of development, it has become an authoritative, professional and well-reputed benchmark department for health management in the Dongguan area, providing high-quality, standardised and personalised one-stop health management services for the general public, enterprises and public institutions and all kinds of groups.
The Honglou Campus Health Management Centre is scheduled to relocate in its entirety to the hospital's International Medical Centre at the end of 2026, where a new modern examination space occupying 3 levels and about 6,000 m² will come into use. The new site is in the hospital's TID core area and connects directly with People's Hospital Station on Metro Line 1. A more comfortable environment, more efficient processes and stronger privacy are intended to create a new benchmark for digital, person-centred and high-end health management. The centre operates Honglou and Puji campuses in an integrated way; after the relocation, the total floor area of the two campuses will be about 9,000 m².
The centre provides about 160,000 health examination and health management services each year. It strictly follows the principle of separating health examination from clinical care, setting up independent dedicated examination areas to effectively avoid the risk of cross-infection, and provides dedicated waiting areas, a nutritious breakfast area and leisure areas to make the experience comfortable and convenient.
Drawing on the overall strength of the century-old Honglou hospital, the centre is fully equipped with high-end equipment and benefits from an ISO 15189-accredited medical laboratory. More than 300 large advanced devices across the hospital can be shared and connected, including PET/CT, SPECT/CT, 3.0T MRI, 256-slice CT, dual-source CT and 256-row spiral CT. The centre itself also has various types of dedicated equipment for early screening and early diagnosis, allowing detailed, multilayered health screening to be completed quickly; the test data are accurate and the results are widely recognised, providing solid technical support for health assessment.
The centre has built a combined professional team covering medicine, nursing, health management and chronic disease management, bringing together a group of experienced and highly skilled medical and nursing staff of senior and intermediate professional rank together with health managers, with a well-developed professional structure and solid operational capability. At the same time, it deeply integrates the resources of the hospital's 2 national key specialties, the Cancer Centre and Respiratory Medicine, and of 19 provincial key clinical specialties, including Cardiovascular Medicine, Thoracic Surgery, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Neurology, Nephrology and Orthopaedics. A dedicated specialist consultation mechanism of the public Grade III Class A hospital has been established: for abnormal examination indicators and difficult health problems, the centre can quickly connect patients with specialists in the relevant fields for precise assessment and provide professional diagnostic advice and intervention plans, completing the closed-loop service of "examination – assessment – intervention – diagnosis and treatment – follow-up". The centre is a designated unit undertaking government-assigned tasks including examinations for entry into the authorised staffing of municipal public institutions, teacher qualification examinations, teacher qualification recognition examinations for Guangdong higher education institutions, examinations for officials supporting Tibet and Xinjiang, and civil service examinations.
The centre's service system is comprehensive and diverse and can meet the health needs of different groups in different settings. It routinely provides individual health examinations, employment and school-entry examinations, group examinations for enterprises and public institutions, civil service examinations and high-end customised "1+X" in-depth health examinations. It operates a health management clinic focused on early cancer screening, chronic disease prevention and control, health monitoring of high-risk groups and the customisation of personalised health plans. It has established a complete digital health record management system covering the whole cycle of health management, including electronic access to examination reports, tracking of health data, regular health follow-up and dynamic risk alerts.
In recent years, the centre has progressively introduced intelligent appointment booking for individualised "1+X" examinations, smart on-site guidance, AI-supported lead assessment, digital quality control across the whole process and intelligent management of the green channel for post-examination referral. From online booking and report collection to post-examination referral, risk assessment and lifestyle management, the whole process is digital and intelligent, and can connect seamlessly with the diagnostic and treatment services of the hospital's specialists, improving service efficiency and opening new paths for digital health management.
Honours and quality control For 4 consecutive years the centre has been ranked among the top 10 health management departments of prefecture-level city hospitals in the China Hospital Competitiveness Rankings and second within Guangdong Province. It received the "Dongguan Youth Civilisation Unit" designation in 2015, the "Guangdong Youth Civilisation Unit" designation in 2016 and Dongguan's "Women's Civilised Service Post" designation in 2023.
Since 2024, it has been the host unit of the Dongguan Medical Quality Control Centre for Health Examination and Management. Commissioned by the municipal health bureau, it undertakes the development of citywide medical quality control standards for health examination and management, quality control supervision, personnel training and the leadership of technical norms.
The centre has successively been approved as an application base for "New Non-invasive Colorectal Cancer Screening Technology" under the National Health Commission's Science and Technology Action Plan for Major Disease Prevention and Control; a Lung Cancer Screening Management Centre of the Lung Cancer Prevention and Control Health Consortium of the Chinese Medical Association and the China Health Promotion Foundation; the Dongguan Regional Nodule Diagnosis and Treatment Consultation Centre of the China Thoracic Surgery Lung Cancer Alliance; and the South China Subcentre for Early Gastrointestinal Cancer Screening and Health Management of a National–Local Joint Engineering Research Centre. It is also a member unit of the Guangdong Alliance for Early Lung Cancer Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment and of Guangdong's Early Screening and Diagnosis Programme for Gastrointestinal Tumours, among other early screening and early diagnosis bases. It is also the institution holding the chair of the Health Management Physicians Branch of the Dongguan Medical Doctor Association, leading citywide academic exchange in health management and standardised training for lead examining physicians.
Health education achievements The centre has long pursued its health promotion mission and worked intensively in public health education, regularly going into government offices, enterprises, schools and communities to hold public-interest lectures, free consultation and health education talks, spreading knowledge about chronic disease prevention and control, care for suboptimal health, early cancer screening, balanced diet and scientific exercise. It actively runs online education platforms, publishes professional health content and produces illustrated articles, short videos, educational copy and other diverse materials. Over the past 3 years it has won 4 national, 5 provincial and 6 municipal awards in health education competitions, continuing to promote health knowledge and helping residents develop scientific health concepts.
Upholding the service philosophy of "early screening, early assessment, early intervention and early diagnosis and treatment", the centre is committed to providing the full chain of high-level health management services of "examination, assessment, diagnosis, management and promotion". It strictly implements medical quality control standards and has established a quality control system for the whole process of health examination and management, with standardised control from booking, examination, report review and explanation of results to health follow-up and early screening and early diagnosis, so as to guard rigorously against missed diagnosis and misdiagnosis and safeguard service quality. For positive and abnormal examination results, a green channel for accessing care is opened, giving rapid access to specialist consultation, admission and further investigations, so that health risks among the public can be addressed efficiently.
Over many years, the centre has kept to its original professional commitment and pursued its health mission, and with rigorous medical practice, excellent professional skills and considerate, high-quality service it has won broad recognition and trust from all sectors of society. In the future, the Health Management Centre of Dongguan People's Hospital will continue to refine its techniques, optimise its services and innovate its models, improve its whole-lifecycle health management system, deepen its core work in health education, disease prevention and chronic disease management and control, do all it can to safeguard the public's health, and support the high-quality development of public health.
