Traditional Chinese Medicine Department / Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Department
A traditional Chinese medicine physician (Department of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine) is one who surveys broadly, draws extensively from many sources, gathers all strengths, and stands out as a master physician. The practitioner's approaches to diagnosis, care, rehabilitation, and health maintenance, extending horizontally and vertically, succeed wherever they are applied and reach wherever they are needed. Ancient investigation of things held that what is near should be taken from one's own body and what is far from all things, and that there is no other path. Yet the master of traditional Chinese medicine adopts traditional Chinese medicine's external-treatment methods, without resorting to acupuncture needles or medication, follows the acupoints to regulate the constitution, stimulates points on the feet to promote harmony, interweaves ancient and Western learning, establishes and proclaims the proper path, and follows the principles of nature, so the practitioner may be said to be capable of unifying them. He also cultivates patients' understanding, clears the eyes and calms the ears, opens the mouth and relaxes the mind, eats according to the capacity of the stomach and moves according to one's strength, practices the Five-Animal Exercises and the Eight Brocades, acts independently when understanding is complete, and, following musical sounds, gives form to movement, without being bound by any single thing. People have difficulties of their own, but no person is inherently difficult, illness has suffering of its own, but no one should suffer. The master of traditional Chinese medicine recognizes that every person is different and every illness has what is appropriate to it, differentiates and treats them, brings them joy and heals them, so that their well-being returns to the body and their care is directed toward the person, keeps pace with the currents of the world, saves lives when only the slightest chance remains, establishes teachings in the medical community, renders service for the uplift of the people, and establishes virtue throughout the world.
