  4. Plan the trip

Check visas, payments and recovery-friendly activities — or let the AI planner draft a day-by-day itinerary.

Frequently asked questions

Why do international patients go to China for medical treatment?

The usual mix is capacity and value: large tertiary hospitals with high case volumes, modern equipment, short waiting times for many procedures, and prices that are often well below Western private rates. Traditional Chinese medicine and the chance to combine care with travel are additional draws.

Is medical treatment in China safe?

Major public tertiary (Grade III-A) hospitals treat enormous caseloads to national standards, and some hospitals hold international accreditation. Safety depends on choosing the right facility for your procedure — not on the country label — so vet the hospital, not the brochure.

Do I have to use the international department?

No — no rule requires it. Ordinary outpatient clinics are open to everyone at the same regulated prices and often allow same-day registration, but they are a Chinese-language, self-service environment with no interpreters. International departments are an optional paid tier — English, appointments, direct insurance billing — at roughly 3–10 times ordinary prices, with capacity capped at 10% of a hospital's services.

Do doctors in China speak English?

At international departments of big-city hospitals, usually yes — many senior doctors read and speak English. Elsewhere English is inconsistent, so plan for an interpreter rather than assuming.

How much cheaper is treatment in China?

It varies by procedure and city, and public-hospital prices are regulated and typically published. Savings are often substantial compared with private Western prices, but always compare total trip cost — flights, hotels, companion costs — not just the procedure fee.
