Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, affiliated with Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, opened its international medical department on November 9, 2025. The hospital described a service combining specialist assessment, Chinese medicine treatments and coordinated management from booking through follow-up.
The hospital reported approximately 5,000 visits by foreign patients annually before outlining the new department's arrangements.
Outpatient and inpatient care under one team
The department has both clinics and a ward. It draws on specialists across internal medicine, surgery, gynecology, pediatrics, acupuncture, tuina manual therapy and rehabilitation, including their subspecialties.
A dedicated medical team manages appointments, assessments, follow-up and patient questions. Hospital experts can contribute through multidisciplinary care, allowing the relevant clinical departments to take part in an individualized plan.
Separate general-practice and specialist consulting rooms, assessment rooms and examination rooms support the clinical service.
Treatment spaces and non-surgical facilities
The department includes an integrated Chinese medicine treatment room and spaces for constitution assessment, meridian assessment and facial acupuncture. It also lists rooms for immersive sound therapy and aromatherapy, as well as non-surgical spinal disc decompression.
These facilities bring the hospital's Chinese and Western medicine resources into the department's outpatient and inpatient setting. The hospital presented chronic-disease management, rehabilitation and health maintenance among the service areas it intends to develop.
Booking, accompaniment and insurance settlement
Multiple appointment channels are available. A guide can accompany patients through the process from appointments and examinations to treatment and follow-up.
The hospital said it had reached direct settlement agreements with nearly 20 insurance companies. This arrangement relates to the participating insurers' coverage.
Iranian tai chi practitioner Meghdad, also known as Yi Zheng, joined the department. The hospital said he would provide exercise guidance and bilingual support for patients, adding another communication resource to the department's clinical team.
