A 68-year-old Mongolian man identified as ENKH received orthopedic treatment at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical University. The hospital's May 23, 2025 account describes coordinated assessment, several linked surgical procedures and rehabilitation before discharge.
Three problems identified in one assessment
ENKH had longstanding right shoulder pain and restricted function. He had sought treatment in several places before coming to the hospital's international ward.
The hospital activated an expedited pathway for international patients. Professor Feng Wei from Area A of the Trauma Surgery Center and the international ward team jointly assessed him, with multidisciplinary consultation.
Review of his medical history, imaging and physical examination identified nonunion of a right humeral fracture, rupture of the right supraspinatus tendon and severe osteoporosis. Further case discussions and functional assessment preceded the operation.
Revision fixation, bone grafting and tendon repair
After contraindications had been excluded, Feng's team performed a combined procedure on the right arm and shoulder.
The operation included removal of existing humeral fixation hardware and fixation using an intramedullary nail together with a plate. Bone from the right iliac region was harvested for grafting to the humerus. A rotator cuff repair was also performed.
These procedures addressed the fracture and tendon problems identified during assessment as part of the same treatment plan. The hospital reported that the operation proceeded smoothly.
Rehabilitation and international ward coordination
Postoperative care combined further medical treatment, intensified osteoporosis management and rehabilitation exercises. The hospital reported significant improvement in shoulder function and relief of symptoms, followed by discharge.
The international ward described multidisciplinary coordination, multilingual communication and rehabilitation management as elements of its service. ENKH expressed appreciation for both the clinical care and the team's support.
The hospital is at 59 South Horqin Road, Saihan district, Hohhot. Its published general contact number is 0471-2576222.
