Guangdong announced its first 25 international medical pilot hospitals on March 26, 2026, including Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital. The pilot runs through 2026–2027 and sets a framework for international care alongside hospitals’ basic medical services.
Who the pilot serves and how it charges
The published definition covers patients from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, foreign nationals and overseas Chinese who pay themselves or use international commercial medical insurance. Pilot hospitals may set international service prices independently and select the applicable billing items.
The international service is organised separately from basic care, principally using additional beds, dedicated areas and specialist service teams. Experts may provide international clinics after meeting their ordinary outpatient commitments without reducing those appointments. The participating hospital list is subject to ongoing review.
Xiehe centre’s clinical facilities
Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital describes its Xiehe centre in the east hospital area as its international care platform, established in 1996. It occupies more than 5,000 square metres, with two general outpatient departments, 23 separate consulting rooms and three inpatient wards containing 54 rooms.
CT, MRI, endoscopy, laboratory and pharmacy services are integrated into the centre. These facilities connect consultation, investigations, medicines and admission within the same service setting.
Translation, coordination and payment
The centre’s published pathway covers booking, initial consultation, examinations, treatment, medication and settlement. It provides 24-hour multilingual interpretation, one-to-one accompaniment, multidisciplinary consultation and cross-border transfer channels.
It also reports direct-settlement relationships with dozens of domestic and overseas insurers and third-party administrators. The associated services include insurance verification, claims handling and reconciliation of direct payments.
The hospital’s specialist support includes cardiovascular emergency care and transfer capability, lung cancer assessment and treatment, neurosurgery, nephrology and pancreatic disease care, alongside other surgical services. Its description places these clinical teams behind the international platform and its coordinated patient pathway.
