Dental Implant Brands in China: Price Differences After Bulk-Buying
Dental implant brand prices in China: official 2023 bulk-buying prices for Straumann, Nobel Biocare, Osstem, Dentium and Chinese systems, plus exclusions.
Last updated:
Quick answer
China's 2023 bulk-buying round set prices of ¥548–1,855 per set for the 40 selected implant systems (implant, single-tooth abutment, accessory pack) in hospitals and clinics that buy them: Straumann, Nobel Biocare and Dentsply at the top, Osstem and Dentium near ¥770, mainland Chinese registrants at ¥548–980. What drives the gap, what the price leaves out, and what the 2026 round may change.
- How much does a Straumann implant cost in China?: In the 2023 nationwide alliance procurement, the selected Institut Straumann AG system (grade-4 pure titanium) was priced at ¥1,855 per set — implant, abutment and accessory pack — for hospitals using that product.
- Is Osstem cheaper than Straumann in China?: On the official 2023 list, the selected Osstem system cost ¥771 and the Dentium system ¥770 per set, against ¥1,853–1,855 for the selected Dentsply, Straumann and Nobel Biocare systems.
- Are Chinese-made implants cheaper than imported ones?: On average, yes, but the ranges overlap: selected systems from mainland Chinese registrants cost ¥548–980 per set and the other selected systems ¥620–1,855, and several of the latter (Osstem ¥771, Dentium ¥770, SNUCONE ¥647) cost less than most mainland ones.
- Will implant prices in China fall again after the 2026 procurement round?: Nobody knows yet. A second round of the alliance procurement, launched on 28 September 2026, plans to add titanium–zirconium implants and multi-unit abutments and is due to finish by the end of 2026.

Since China's 2023 nationwide bulk-buying round, each of the 40 selected implant systems — implant, single-tooth abutment and accessory pack — has a published price for the public hospitals and participating private clinics that buy it: ¥548 to ¥1,855 per set, averaging just over ¥900[1][4][5]. Brand explains most of that range. On the official result list, the selected systems of Institut Straumann AG and Nobel Biocare AB cost ¥1,855, DENTSPLY Implants ¥1,853, Osstem and Dentium ¥770–771, and those of mainland Chinese registrants ¥548–980[3]. The brand does not change the service fee, which is priced separately. Non-selected products, grafts and special abutments cost extra, and private clinics, and public VIP areas under set conditions, can set their own service prices. A second round launched on 28 September 2026 may change these figures[15][16]; as of 30 October 2026 we found no new prices published.
This guide covers the brand and material part of the bill. For the procedure, healing time and number of trips, see dental implants in China; for budgeting a trip and city price caps, see dental tourism in China.
The three-part price, briefly
A routine single implant in a Chinese public hospital is billed in three parts: a packaged service fee, in principle no more than ¥4,500 at tertiary public hospitals (some regions and hospitals may go higher); the implant system at its procurement price; and the crown, listed at ¥100–656 with an average just over ¥300[1]. National rules have public hospitals price implant placement separately from the implant system[6], so changing brand changes only the second line — and the third, if you change crown material. Public hospitals also sell consumables at their purchase price, without markup[7]. According to a report on the website of China's National Healthcare Security Administration (NHSA), these measures brought the average cost of a single implant down from about ¥15,000 to ¥6,000–7,000[16]. Beijing's official guide for foreigners says international patients are charged the same as residents and pay out of pocket or through commercial insurance[9]. Mainland basic medical insurance is tied to work or residence on the mainland[22][23], so short-term visitors cannot use it. International, VIP and private clinics set their own service prices, within limits (see below). Crowns have their own guide: crown materials and prices.
How the 2023 bulk-buying round set the prices
Under the guidance of the NHSA, Sichuan's healthcare security bureau led a purchasing alliance that every province joined[4][6]. Bids opened in Chengdu on 11 January 2023: according to Xinhua, 55 companies took part, 39 were selected, and the average selected price was 55% below the median purchase price before procurement[4]. The final list of 40 products was published on 19 January 2023, and each region set its own start date[2][3]. The NHSA says the list covers all mainstream domestic and imported brands[1].
The tender document set these rules[5]:
- What was bought. A "product system": one implant (with cover screw), one single-tooth restorative abutment and one accessory pack (healing abutment, transfer post, implant analog). Multi-unit abutments and temporary, zygomatic and one-piece implants were excluded.
- Two material categories. Grade-4 commercially pure titanium systems and titanium-alloy systems, each with a maximum valid bid of ¥2,380 per set.
- Two bidding units. Registrants that together covered the top 90% of hospitals' reported demand, and that promised to supply every region, bid in Unit A; the rest bid in Unit B.
- Two kinds of selection. In each unit the cheapest 60% of qualifying bids became "primary" selections (甲类) and received 90–100% of the volume hospitals had requested for them. Some higher bids qualified as "secondary" selections (乙类) and received 75%. These are volume categories, not quality grades.
- Each bid was measured against the brand's own price history. The baseline was the registrant's lowest valid 2021 purchase price in participating hospitals: ¥3,373 per set for the Straumann, Nobel Biocare and Dentsply systems and ¥957 for Osstem and Dentium. A Unit A bid could still become a secondary selection at no more than 55% of that baseline — for ¥3,373, that is ¥1,855.
That is one reason the old price order largely survived. The NHSA said the Straumann, Dentsply and Nobel Biocare systems fell from a median purchase price of ¥5,000 to about ¥1,850, and Osstem and Dentium from about ¥1,500 to about ¥770[4].

The mainland Chinese registrants, with their names as listed (company suffixes dropped): grade-4 titanium — 杭州民生立德 ¥548, 常州百康特 ¥630, 百齿泰(厦门)¥729, 江苏创英 ¥747, 广东中科安齿 ¥762, 郑州康德泰 ¥783, 四川拜阿蒙 ¥800, 深圳安特 ¥868, 江苏人冠 ¥880, 威海威高洁丽康 ¥906, 瑞奇医疗(嘉兴)¥945, 四川鸿政博恩 ¥958 and 山东恒泰 ¥980; titanium alloy — 北京大清西格 ¥599 and 北京莱顿生物材料 ¥798[3].
In money terms, the dearest selected system costs ¥1,307 more per implant than the cheapest (¥1,855 against ¥548), and the selected Straumann system ¥1,084 more than the selected Osstem one. Three things to know when you read the list:
- The distributor is not the brand. In the applicant column, the Straumann (士卓曼) companies in China also submitted the Anthogyr, WARANTEC and 台湾美佳境 systems, and the Dentsply Sirona (登士柏西诺德) company in Shanghai submitted MIS[3]. Ask for the manufacturer on the quote.
- The price follows the registration certificate. If an implant on a registration certificate was selected, the other implants of that category on the same certificate count as selected whatever their size or model, and hospitals may combine sizes within a selected system. Products that were not bid or not selected are identified by certificate and component[5], so a brand's other lines can sit outside the selected price.
- The NHSA publishes the list too. Its official WeChat account carries the selected products (maker, material, price) and the public and private clinics that have committed to the price rules[1].
Premium vs budget implants: what actually differs
Official documents do not rank implant brands, and neither do we. These are the technical differences that most often lie behind a price gap:
- Material. Pure titanium comes in four grades; grade 4 is the strongest and most titanium implants are made from it. Titanium alloys such as Ti-6Al-4V ("grade 5") have higher yield and fatigue strength[11]. Titanium–zirconium alloy (commonly 13–17% zirconium) has been studied especially for narrow, reduced-diameter implants, and studies report higher tensile and fatigue strength than grade-4 titanium[12]. Strength is a mechanical property, not a measure of how well an implant bonds to bone.
- Surface treatment. Implant surfaces are treated in different ways, for example blasted and acid-etched, or anodised[10]. China's regulator requires each surface treatment to be registered as a separate unit and asks for evidence behind special claims such as hydrophilicity[10]. A 2018 systematic review of studies with at least ten years of follow-up concluded that very good long-term results are possible with all the surface types it covered[13].
- Connection. The abutment locks into the implant through an external or internal connection, often a hexagon or a cone (taper)[10]. In a systematic review, abutment-screw loosening was the most common technical problem with both, reported more often with external connections, while fracture rates did not seem to depend on the connection type[14]. Parts are made for a specific system, and an abutment that does not match the implant is a recognised failure risk[10] — a dentist at home will need the exact system name to source parts.
- Components. Abutments come as straight or angled, single-tooth or multi-unit, stock or custom, and systems differ in what they offer. The 2023 price covers one single-tooth titanium or titanium-alloy abutment and the accessory pack only[5].
- Warranty. The tender makes selected manufacturers liable to compensate patients harmed by a production-quality defect[5], but it sets no warranty period, and we found no national standard warranty. Some local rules add duties: Shanghai's require public hospitals to warrant the implants, abutments and crowns they place and to repair or remake them free within the warranty, without setting its length[24]. Otherwise the manufacturer and clinic set the terms (see dentures and full-mouth implants).
Which system suits your bone, bite and follow-up plans is a decision for you and your dentist after an examination and a CBCT scan.
What the procurement price does not cover
| Item | Covered by the 2023 selected price? | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Non-selected products, including implants of other materials or titanium grades, and temporary, zygomatic and one-piece implants | No | Hospitals must use selected systems first[5]; anything else is priced separately (in public hospitals still at purchase price, without markup[7]). For example, Straumann's titanium-alloy system was listed in the 2023 tender[5] but is not on the result list[3] |
| Titanium–zirconium implants | No | None was selected in 2023: Xinhua reports that the 2026 round plans to bring them into the procurement[15] |
| Multi-unit abutments for bridges and full arches; abutments not made of titanium or titanium alloy | No | Excluded in 2023[5]; multi-unit abutments planned for 2026[15]. Full arches: see dentures and full-mouth implants |
| Bone grafts and soft-tissue grafts | No | Not in the service package[1]; the grafting fee is priced separately from bone-substitute and membrane materials[6]. In Beijing, cases needing grafts do not count as routine single implants[8] |
| Extraction, periodontal cleaning, root canal treatment | No | Charged separately[1] |
| The crown | No | Separate listed product[1] |
| VIP areas and private clinics | Not necessarily | About 14,000 private institutions joined the 2023 procurement[4], but private clinics' service prices are market-regulated; they must display prices and may not lure patients with misleading "subsidy" or "low price" offers[6]. In Beijing, private clinics in the insurance network must follow the city's single-implant service-price target and other private clinics use it as a reference; public hospitals may charge market prices for implant services in VIP (特需) areas — not for the implant system, which stays at purchase price — only if they meet set conditions and file the prices with the city healthcare security bureau[8] |
The second round, launched 28 September 2026
- What was announced. Xinhua reported that the second round of implant-system procurement was launched on 28 September 2026, guided by the NHSA and led by the Sichuan and Shaanxi healthcare security bureaus. It plans to add titanium–zirconium implants, which have matured in clinical use in recent years, and multi-unit abutments, for which clinical demand is high. Public hospitals' implant operations rose from 210,000 in 2022 to 890,000 in 2025[15].
- What changes in the rules. According to the report republished on the NHSA website, consensus "new-material" implants come into scope, competitive bidding gives way to an open price inquiry with multi-dimensional price comparison, volumes are allocated in tiers that favour good-value products, and one platform handles volume reporting. The report counts 53 applicant companies and 269 registration certificates in the first round, rising to 101 and 660 in the second[16]; for the first round, Xinhua had reported 55 participating companies[4]. Hospitals that place implants will now report volumes, and the round is due to finish by the end of 2026[16].
- What is being bought. Sichuan's procurement centre lists each submitted system as an implant, a restorative abutment (single-tooth or multi-unit) and an accessory pack in which a scan body may replace the transfer post[17].
- Status on 30 October 2026. We found no published price rules or results. The first round's agreement period has ended[16], and Inner Mongolia's procurement centre, for example, keeps buying the 2023 selected products at their selected prices until the new results are implemented[18].
What it may change: which products carry a procurement price, and the prices themselves. We found no announced price targets, so treat any forecast as speculation. If your surgery falls in 2027, ask the clinic which price list will apply on the day.
How to read an implant quote
| Line on the quote | What it should say | How to check |
|---|---|---|
| Implant system | Manufacturer (registrant), system and line name, implant size if known, and whether it is a procurement-selected product (集采中选产品) at the selected price | Compare with the official list[3] or the NHSA list[1] |
| Registration number | 国械注准 (mainland-made), 国械注进 (imported) or 国械注许 (Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan), then the year of first registration, the device class, the category code and the serial number assigned at first registration[19]; implants are Class III devices[10] | Search the NMPA database[20] |
| Abutment | Type (single-tooth, angled, multi-unit, custom) and material; part of the selected system or extra | Ask |
| Service fee | One packaged fee for a routine single implant, with what it includes | Compare with the cap in dental tourism in China |
| Crown | Material and price | Crown materials and prices |
| Extras | Extraction, grafting (procedure and material on separate lines), temporary tooth, surgical guide | Each is priced separately[1][6] |
| Warranty | What is covered, for how long, and the conditions (check-ups, where they must happen) | Get it in writing |
In Beijing, patients having a routine single implant sign an informed-consent form that states the clinic's price target[8]. After surgery, the hospital must record the name and key technical parameters of the implanted device in your medical record[21]; ask for a copy before you fly home — see medical records and follow-up. To check the clinic's licence and committed prices, see finding a dentist in China.
Limits of these numbers
The figures above are 2023 selected prices for hospitals that use the selected product; they are not quotes, and the 2026 round may replace them. A low advertised "implant price" may cover only some of the three parts, so compare like with like. Cheaper is not automatically worse, and dearer not automatically better: no official source in this guide grades brands. If you will have check-ups at home, ask your home dentist whether they can obtain parts for the system before you choose it.
