The Yunnan Provincial Health Commission published a Health News report on October 27, 2026 describing emergency treatment at the First Affiliated Hospital of Dali University. A 72-year-old resident of a remote mountainous area in Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture had developed severe abdominal pain seven hours before seeking urgent care at a local hospital. An examination there led to a diagnosis of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm and transfer to Dali because of the critical condition.
Severe shock on arrival
At admission, blood pressure had fallen to 60/30 mmHg and the heart rate was 120 beats per minute. The patient showed severe haemorrhagic shock and was at risk of cardiac arrest. The vascular team identified an abdominal aortic aneurysm and a giant right common iliac artery aneurysm, with reported aneurysm rupture and a large amount of blood behind the peritoneum.
These findings made rapid bleeding control the immediate priority. The account describes a vascular emergency requiring coordination between emergency clinicians, vascular surgeons and the surgical anaesthesia team.
Direct transfer from emergency care to the operating room
The hospital activated its emergency “green channel” and moved the patient directly from the emergency resuscitation room to the operating room. The surgical and anaesthesia teams worked together under local anaesthesia to locate the vascular rupture, exclude the aneurysmal sac and control bleeding. The report describes efforts to limit trauma and improve the shock state rapidly.
The operation was completed after about one hour.
Early recovery and discharge
On the second postoperative day, the patient was reported to be in a good mental state. Further rehabilitation treatment and nursing care followed, and the patient had been discharged by the time of the report.
The documented course connects initial assessment at a local hospital, transfer for specialist vascular care, coordinated emergency surgery and continued recovery care at Dali.
