Emergency Medicine
The Department of Emergency Medicine of the Affiliated Cardiovascular Hospital of Xiamen University was established in 2019-6 and has functional areas including the emergency outpatient clinic, emergency resuscitation room, information platform-based chest pain center, emergency catheterization laboratory, and emergency intensive care unit. It currently has 1 chief physician, 3 deputy chief physicians, and 6 attending physicians. The department's chest pain outpatient clinic and green channel for the treatment of critically ill cardiac patients can provide rapid and multidimensional treatment around the clock for critical conditions such as acute myocardial infarction, fulminant myocarditis, and respiratory and cardiac arrest. All critically ill cardiac patients arriving at the hospital do not need redundant procedures such as consultation with the Department of Cardiology or intra-hospital transfer; emergency physicians directly activate the green channel and, according to the patient's condition, complete interventional procedures in the emergency catheterization laboratory, including coronary angiography, balloon dilation angioplasty, stent implantation, temporary pacemaker implantation, and mechanical circulatory support. The treatment efficiency and success rate are far higher than the domestic average. The department currently performs more than 1000 cases of coronary intervention annually, covering procedures ranging from emergency to elective interventions and from ordinary lesions to complex, high-risk operations supported by mechanical assist devices; it performs more than 30 rescue ECMO implantations annually for conditions including cardiac arrest, pulmonary embolism, fulminant myocarditis, cardiogenic shock, and refractory malignant arrhythmias, with a success rate at a domestically leading level. The emergency intensive care unit currently has 21 beds and specializes mainly in advanced technologies such as ultrasound-guided arterial and venous puncture, bedside fiberoptic bronchoscopy, and bedside continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), while also actively performing IVUS, FFR, coronary plaque rotational atherectomy, right heart catheterization, left ventriculography, and other procedures. Professor Wang Bin, director of the department, is a core member of the hospital's structural heart disease team and has led the team in completing multiple first minimally invasive cardiac interventional procedures in the Asia-Pacific region, China, and Fujian Province, including Fujian Province's first percutaneous aortic balloon valvuloplasty for heavily calcified severe aortic stenosis (PBAV, 2014), Fujian's first transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI, 2014), Fujian's first percutaneous left ventricular aneurysm partitioning procedure (Parachute, 2016), the Asia-Pacific region's first minimally invasive ventricular aneurysm volume reduction procedure (Revivent, 2017), the Asia-Pacific region's first transapical mitral annuloplasty implantation (AMEND, 2018), Fujian's first balloon-expandable system valve implantation (2020), Fujian's first transcatheter edge-to-edge repair of the mitral valve (TEER, 2021), Fujian's first minimally invasive transcatheter mitral valve-in-valve implantation (TMVR, 2021), Fujian's first transcatheter tricuspid valve-in-valve implantation (TTVR, 2021), and Fujian's first atrial septal shunt device implantation (SIRIUS AFR, 2021). The Department of Emergency Medicine is a dynamic team. Since its establishment, its philosophy and technology have continuously improved, and its influence has steadily expanded. It has become a modern cardiovascular disease treatment center capable of providing comprehensive treatment for critically ill cardiac patients and undertakes the important task of providing emergency care for critically ill cardiovascular patients in southwestern Fujian.
