Pathology
The Department of Pathology was established in 1994. After more than 30 years of passing down its legacy, upholding its principles, and pursuing innovation, it has developed into a modern clinical teaching-oriented pathology center integrating medical care, education, and research.
The department’s clinical premises cover a total area of more than 1000 square meters, with a scientifically planned layout, standardized and orderly workflows, and intelligent, advanced equipment. With the hospital’s focused support, all department staff have united their efforts and achieved leapfrog development. As of July 2025, the department has 25 medical and technical personnel on duty, including 4 with senior professional titles, 5 with intermediate professional titles, and 17 master’s and doctoral professionals; its talent structure is well balanced.
As the core medical diagnostic department of the entire hospital, the Department of Pathology undertakes the pathology diagnosis tasks of all clinical departments, providing full-process services covering histopathology, intraoperative rapid frozen-section consultation, and cytopathology. It took the lead in establishing subspecialty systems for early gastrointestinal cancer, breast cancer, lymphoma, bone marrow biopsy, kidney biopsy, dermatopathology, and gynecologic pathology, placing it in the first echelon of pathology subspecialty development across the province. In addition, the department has long provided consultations on difficult pathology cases within and outside the province, skillfully applying cutting-edge technologies such as immunohistochemistry, special staining, and immunofluorescence to provide strong support for the precise diagnosis of difficult diseases.
In recent years, the department has kept pace with the forefront of molecular pathology, building a regionally leading molecular testing platform and conducting more than 100 advanced testing items. Among these, distinctive technologies such as EB virus in situ hybridization, FISH-HER2 testing for breast cancer, panoramic targeted gene analysis for lung cancer/colorectal cancer, cervical HPV E6/E7 mRNA testing, cytological DNA quantitative analysis, and urine fluorescence staining for bladder cancer have provided solid technical support for precision tumor diagnosis and treatment, helping clinical decision-making move toward greater accuracy.
In recent years, the department has led and participated in more than 10 provincial/ministerial-level and departmental/bureau-level projects, and has cumulatively published more than 50 papers in SCI-indexed and core journals. Relying on rigorous quality control and outstanding quality, it has received the title of “Outstanding Pathology Quality Control in Zhejiang Province” for consecutive years, forging an industry benchmark through its capabilities and reputation.
