Obstetrics
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is one of the departments established in 1958 with the founding of the Affiliated Hospital; it is an authorized master's-degree training site of Inner Mongolia Medical University, the research center for obstetric and gynecological diseases throughout the autonomous region, the Gynecology Quality Control Center, a national standardized residency training base, a drug trial base for obstetrics and gynecology under the National Medical Products Administration, and one of the first group of pilot institutions designated by the National Cancer Center for quality control of standardized ovarian cancer diagnosis and treatment. The department currently has nearly 300 medical and nursing personnel, including 48 with senior professional titles, 8 who hold doctoral degrees or are doctoral candidates, and more than 40 who hold master's degrees or are master's students. The department has a well-developed professional structure and a comprehensive range of specialties; for many years, medical care, education, and research have developed in coordination.
Gynecology is a leading discipline in the autonomous region and comprises four medical units: benign tumors, malignant tumors, pelvic floor disorders, and the tumor and reproductive endocrinology group. The department has consistently promoted standardized diagnosis and treatment of common gynecological diseases and established specialty clinics in endocrinology, pelvic floor therapy, and cervical lesions. Its capabilities in minimally invasive gynecologic oncology surgery continue to improve: it independently performs nationally leading radical surgery for ovarian cancer and standardized postoperative treatment; radical surgery for cervical cancer; and Level IV surgeries and new technologies, including laparoscopic staging of endometrial cancer, high uterosacral ligament suspension for pelvic organ prolapse, and vaginal sacrocolpopexy for pelvic organ prolapse, among others; leading the development of gynecological clinical diagnosis and treatment technology throughout the autonomous region.
Obstetrics is a key discipline in the autonomous region and the autonomous region's center for the treatment of pregnant and postpartum women. It focuses on medical care and health services in the field of perinatal medicine, with particular expertise in the screening, monitoring, and treatment of various high-risk pregnancies. It was the first in the region to carry out prenatal Down syndrome screening, amniocentesis, umbilical cord blood chromosomal testing, and chorionic villus biopsy. Its capabilities in noninvasive genetic sequencing, fluorescence in situ hybridization, prenatal diagnosis, and the diagnosis and treatment of pathological obstetric conditions, particularly various critical obstetric complications, have reached a level comparable to that of peer institutions in China.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has an average annual outpatient volume of approximately 150,000 or more visits, more than 10,000 discharges, and more than 8,000 inpatient surgical procedures, including more than 6,000 gynecological operations and more than 3,000 endoscopic procedures (hysteroscopic and laparoscopic surgeries). The cure-and-improvement rate is 98.8%, and the rescue success rate for critically ill patients is 100% in both obstetrics and gynecology.
