Refractory Hyperthyroidism Multidisciplinary Outpatient Clinic
Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine
Introduction
Refractory hyperthyroidism refers to cases in which antithyroid drugs have poor efficacy, hyperthyroidism has recurred, or treatment is contraindicated. It accounts for approximately 10-20%. If left uncontrolled over the long term, it can lead to serious complications such as hyperthyroid heart disease, heart failure, osteoporosis, and thyroid storm, significantly increasing the medical burden. The traditional single-department management model often finds it difficult to take into account medication adjustment, assessment for radioactive iodine therapy, and determination of surgical indications, thereby affecting treatment outcomes. This MDT outpatient clinic can integrate specialized resources from the Department of Endocrinology, Department of Nuclear Medicine, Department of Head and Neck Surgery, and other specialties to achieve precise disease assessment, individualized treatment plans, and standardized long-term follow-up. Multidisciplinary collaboration improves treatment effectiveness and reduces complications.
