Laboratory Medicine

The Laboratory Department of Peking University Shenzhen Hospital is a clinical laboratory diagnostic laboratory integrating medical care, teaching and research, and is a key discipline of Guangdong Province. It is Shenzhen’s first medical laboratory accredited to ISO 15189 by the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS), and is undertaken by Academician Zhan Qimin’s Three Projects team; in 2021 it received the Guangdong Women’s Civilization Post honor. The department has 85 professional and technical staff, including 8 doctors, 23 masters and 42 undergraduates; 32 have senior titles, 30 intermediate titles and 21 junior titles. It has more than 400 instruments with total assets exceeding 60 million yuan and performs more than 500 test items, fully meeting clinical diagnosis and treatment needs. In 2015 it passed ISO 15189 laboratory accreditation and became the first ISO 15189-accredited medical laboratory in Shenzhen. Its lean projects have repeatedly won awards in municipal quality-control-circle competitions, including two first prizes in the Guangdong competition and one second and one third prize nationally. The department strengthens its culture by respecting the value and needs of talent, establishing training and incentive mechanisms, and developing its talent pipeline; creating a warm and comfortable environment to improve staff well-being and departmental cohesion and influence; and incorporating lean-management principles into daily work, focusing on patient value, reducing waste and continuously improving. This excellent culture makes rules effective, clarifies development goals, stabilizes the talent team and improves professional ethics, service awareness and standardized, institutionalized and humane management. The department will use comprehensive improvement of clinical laboratory and research standards as its lever, uphold the service principle “patient-centered, quality-centered, wholeheartedly serving clinical care,” ensure quality control before, during and after testing, practice the quality policy of “service, accuracy and satisfaction,” build a technologically advanced and reliable diagnostic platform, establish a “learning-oriented, lean, innovative and humanistic” discipline, and strive to become a first-class medical laboratory in China with international influence.
