Minimally Invasive Oncology Department
Peking University International Hospital’s Department of Minimally Invasive Oncology was established under the guidance of the “Dual-Micro Theory” of Professor Zheng Jiasheng, a renowned expert in minimally invasive oncology, and is a clinical discipline that integrates medical care, teaching, research, and prevention, promotes the integrated development of Chinese and Western medicine, and advocates a new model of minimally invasive, scarless tumor treatment based on early tumor screening, early diagnosis, and early treatment (the “Three Earlys”), particularly early minimally invasive treatment, as well as preservation of anatomical structures, physiological functions, and immune functions (the “Three Preservations”). The Department applies transarterial chemoembolization for tumors and yttrium-90 radioembolization for local radiotherapy and sequentially performs, under CT, MRI, DSA, ultrasound, and endoscopic guidance, NanoKnife tumor ablation, cryoablation, microwave ablation, radiofrequency ablation, laser ablation, chemical ablation, photodynamic therapy, I-125 radioactive particle implantation, and other minimally invasive surgeries to precisely eradicate the following imaging-visible cancers and tumors: liver cancer, lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, renal cancer, oligometastatic cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, thyroid cancer, cancer with bone metastases, mediastinal tumors, and retroperitoneal tumors; in combination with holistic microenvironmental modulation based on traditional Chinese medicine, targeted drugs, immunotherapy, cell therapy, and other approaches, the Department remodels the body’s immune microenvironment to eliminate tiny tumors invisible on imaging; precise minimally invasive surgery removes tumors and blocks cancer-related pain; precise, scarless, minimally invasive radical ablation procedures treat pulmonary nodules, thyroid nodules, breast nodules, hepatic hemangiomas, hepatic cysts, renal cysts, and prostate enlargement; minimally invasive surgery reverses cirrhosis and interrupts the progression from hepatitis to cirrhosis to liver cancer; the Department makes every effort to advance the new tumor prevention and treatment model based on the “Three Earlys” and the “Three Preservations” and to create a new humanistic paradigm of diagnosis and treatment, “Minimally Invasive · Scarless Healing.”
