Radiology
Radiology Department
Our hospital is a nationally renowned Grade A tertiary specialized hospital integrating medical care, teaching, and research. As the hospital has developed, the Department of Radiology has continued to grow. Through inheritance and innovation, it has made substantial progress in its talent pipeline, discipline development, and academic standards. Taking the characteristics of the specialty into account, it has summarized and accumulated a comprehensive set of standards for imaging diagnosis and interventional treatment in obstetrics and gynecology, and has developed a strong disciplinary structure for imaging diagnosis and treatment and a research team. It currently has 39 medical, nursing, and technical staff members, including 1 chief physician and 6 associate chief physicians; 2 master's supervisors, 3 doctoral degree holders, and more than 20 master's degree holders. On two occasions, department personnel received funding from the China Scholarship Council and the hospital's Wang Shuzhen Fund to travel to the United States as visiting scholars.
Department management team: Zhang Guofu serves as director of the department and secretary of the Radiology Party Branch; Tian Xiaomei serves as deputy director in charge of clinical affairs; Zhang He serves as deputy director in charge of research/teaching; and Qian Huijun serves as deputy secretary of the Radiology Party Branch.
Director Zhang Guofu served as Deputy Leader of the Women and Children's Interventional Group of the Interventional Professional Committee of the Chinese Society of Radiology (2016), and Deputy Chair of the Interventional Professional Committee for Reproductive and Urinary System Diseases of the Interventional Group of the Chinese Society of Radiology (2019); Deputy Chair of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Interventional Professional Committee of the Interventional Physicians Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association (2019); Director Zhang Guofu was elected Honorary Chair of the Radiology and Interventional Professional Committee of the China Maternal and Child Health Association (2018) and Deputy Chair of its Radiological Medicine Professional Committee (2019); Dr. Zhang He was elected Deputy Chair of the Radiology and Interventional Professional Committee of the China Maternal and Child Health Association (2018).
The Department of Radiology has advanced large-scale digital imaging equipment, including 1.5T MRI, 64-slice CT, flat-panel DSA, 4 small C-arm units, 2 three-dimensional digital mammography units, 4 DR/mobile DR units, 2 bone densitometers (DXA), a PACS system networked between the two campuses, and a video image-reading system, among other equipment. Equipment to be purchased soon includes 3T MRI and magnetic resonance-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound (MRgFUS), among other equipment.
In the early 1990s, the Department of Radiology took the lead in using the hospital's self-developed coaxial fallopian tube catheter system to perform selective salpingography followed by recanalization (SSG + FTR) under fluoroscopic guidance, significantly increasing the pregnancy rate among patients with tubal factor infertility. Selective arterial catheterization and interventional chemotherapy achieved good clinical results in the treatment of advanced cervical cancer and ovarian cancer. Superselective arterial embolization for uterine fibroids, adenomyosis, cesarean-scar pregnancy, placenta accreta, postpartum hemorrhage, arteriovenous malformations, and other conditions demonstrates minimally invasive and individualized treatment while helping preserve the uterus and fertility. The department also pioneered intra-arterial balloon catheter preplacement among obstetrics and gynecology specialty hospitals in Shanghai, safeguarding pregnant women with pernicious placenta previa or placenta accreta. An upgraded fallopian tube embolization technique effectively increases the clinical pregnancy rate of in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET).
The department took the lead in compiling the Shanghai quality-control standards for hysterosalpingography (HSG). As a principal expert, Director Zhang Guofu participated in developing a number of national expert consensuses and guidelines, such as the “Chinese Expert Consensus on Hysterosalpingography” (2018) and the “Chinese Expert Consensus on Interventional Treatment of the Fallopian Tubes” (2019).
The Department of Radiology provides patients with high-quality online and offline diagnostic and treatment services in imaging diagnosis and interventional treatment. Each year, it performs nearly 15,000 painless hysterosalpingography (HSG), selective salpingography (SSG), and fallopian tube recanalization (FTR) procedures, as well as more than 5,000 hydrosalpinx embolization procedures, consistently ranking first nationwide; it also handles approximately 3,000–5,000 consultation cases from across the country. It offers a premium radiology consultation service, a clinic for difficult interventional cases, a premium interventional outpatient clinic, and an interventional specialty outpatient clinic, among others. It also promotes and disseminates new technologies in obstetric and gynecologic imaging diagnosis and intervention through various formats, including training courses and accepting physicians for further training.
With the rapid development of imaging equipment, the continuous improvement of the discipline's capabilities, and the introduction of new equipment and technologies, the Department of Radiology will further improve its overall level of imaging diagnosis and interventional treatment. Through platforms such as professional societies, it will gradually develop standards or expert consensuses for obstetric and gynecologic imaging diagnosis and treatment, continually broaden the scope of imaging examinations, diagnosis, and interventional treatment, strengthen its research capabilities, and build the Department of Radiology into a first-class discipline for obstetric and gynecologic imaging diagnosis and interventional treatment. Let advanced obstetric and gynecologic imaging diagnosis and treatment technologies contribute to the health of women and children!
