Interventional Vascular Surgery Department
1. Basic information: The Department of Interventional Vascular Surgery is a cutting-edge technology department of our hospital. It began providing interventional diagnostic and therapeutic services in 2008, the Department of Interventional Medicine was formally established in 2010, and it was renamed the Department of Interventional Vascular Surgery in 2016. Its scope of services includes interventional oncology, peripheral vascular interventions, interventions for digestive diseases, and surgical diagnosis and treatment of vascular diseases, among other services. 2. Service scale: The department operates an Interventional Vascular Surgery Expert Clinic, a Specialty Clinic for Lower-Extremity Varicose Veins, a Comprehensive Interventional Specialty Clinic for Digestive Diseases, and an Oncology Interventional Clinic; it has 10 beds, more than 1000 outpatient visits annually, and performs more than 500 operations annually. 3. Personnel team: The department currently has 19 medical and nursing staff members, including 7 physicians, 13 nurses (in the comprehensive ward), 1 full-time operating-room nurse, and 1 technician. 4. Equipment: The department has 2 high-standard laminar-flow interventional operating rooms, equipped with 2 large Siemens digital angiography machines from Germany, an endovascular laser treatment device, and a tumor microwave ablation device. 5. Clinical features: The department can simultaneously provide interventional diagnosis and treatment and vascular surgery services. It has opened a “Specialty Clinic for Lower-Extremity Varicose Veins” and provides minimally invasive treatment. The department is proficient in the interventional and surgical diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant tumors and vascular diseases, including: deep vein thrombosis of the lower extremities, lower-extremity varicose veins, lower-extremity atherosclerotic occlusive disease, diabetic foot, iliac vein compression syndrome, stenosis of an arteriovenous fistula access for hemodialysis, arteriovenous malformations (hemangiomas), peripheral arterial aneurysms, aortic dissection, thoracoabdominal aortic and iliac artery aneurysms, and bleeding from esophagogastric varices caused by cirrhosis; embolization and ablation of benign and malignant tumors, including liver cancer, lung cancer, and hepatic hemangiomas; I125 seed implantation for malignant tumors; stent placement for tracheal stenosis, gastrointestinal obstruction, and biliary obstruction; uterine artery embolization for uterine fibroids, adenomyosis, and uterine-scar pregnancy; definitive sclerotherapy of hepatic and renal cysts; abscess drainage; interventional treatment of various acute hemorrhages (hemoptysis, gastrointestinal bleeding, obstetric and gynecological bleeding, traumatic and postoperative bleeding); biopsies at various sites; and implantation and management of venous infusion ports. The department routinely performs procedures in the fields of interventional medicine and vascular surgery, such as: endovascular covered-stent repair of aortic diseases (TEVAR/ EVAR), transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) for bleeding from esophageal varices caused by cirrhosis, intratumoral particle implantation and microwave ablation, etc. Some of the techniques performed by the department include: sclerosing embolization of body hemangiomas (vascular malformations), simultaneous surgery for iliac vein compression accompanied by lower-extremity varicose veins, integrated interventional treatment of lower-extremity deep vein thrombosis, I125 seed-strand implantation for portal vein tumor thrombus, individualized comprehensive interventional treatment of liver cancer, tumor microwave ablation, and individualized minimally invasive treatment of lower-extremity varicose veins, among others. 6. Research and teaching: In recent years, more than 30 papers have been published in professional core journals; the department has served as editor-in-chief and contributor to 1 book; it provides year-round clinical teaching for interns and standardized-training trainees from various universities, and has held municipal-level continuing-education courses on multiple occasions.
