Songbei Hemodialysis Center
The Hemodialysis Center of the Songbei Campus of the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University was established in 2016. It is the first dialysis center of a Grade III Class A hospital in Songbei District and is a key department under development at the Songbei Campus of the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University. It is an institution whose representative serves as deputy chair of the Nephrology and Blood Purification Professional Committee of the Heilongjiang Chronic Disease Management Society; a member institution of the Blood Purification Professional Committee of the Heilongjiang Hospital Association; a member institution of the Nephrology and Blood Purification Branch of the Heilongjiang Research-Oriented Medical Society; and a clinical training base for specialist nurses in blood purification in Heilongjiang Province.
The center has a pleasant environment and complete supporting facilities. Its areas are zoned in accordance with infection prevention and control requirements, with a rational layout and no cross-infection caused by reverse traffic. Disinfection and isolation protocols are strictly implemented. Bacterial cultures of reverse-osmosis water and endotoxin testing of dialysate are performed regularly to ensure medical safety.
The Hemodialysis Center currently has 54 beds, including 53 hemodialysis machines and 1 hemodiafiltration machine. Each dialysis unit is equipped with modules such as central oxygen supply, as well as defibrillators, electrocardiographs, suction devices, and multiple patient monitors. The center not only provides dialysis for outpatients receiving hemodialysis but also performs dialysis treatment for inpatients at the Songbei Campus (such as patients with acute kidney injury, chronic renal failure, or uremia complicated by gastrointestinal bleeding, cerebral hemorrhage, acute heart failure, and other conditions).
The Hemodialysis Center currently has 17 staff members: 5 physicians (2 with doctoral-level postgraduate education and 3 with master's-level postgraduate education), including 1 associate chief physician, 2 attending physicians, and 2 resident physicians; 11 nurses, including 4 nurse supervisors, 3 nurses with the professional title of nurse practitioner, and 4 nurses; and 1 full-time engineer. All of the center’s hemodialysis medical and nursing personnel have worked in the field of hemodialysis for many years and possess excellent technical skills and extensive experience. The department provides teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students and has trained 11 master's students. It also undertakes continuing education in hemodialysis, organizes continuing-education conferences on blood purification, and has trained numerous qualified standardized-training residents and physicians undertaking further training. The department has a well-balanced staffing structure and encourages and supports the development of outstanding professionals to improve the standard of medical care.
Departmental specialties:
Blood purification is one of the effective treatment methods for acute and chronic renal failure and for supporting the function of vital organs. Its treatment population has expanded from the field of kidney disease alone to all clinical departments.
The department has now established a model based on conventional hemodialysis and the development of various new blood purification technologies. It can perform a range of blood purification procedures, including hemodialysis, hemodiafiltration, and hemoperfusion. The department emphasizes the customization of individualized dialysis regimens, regularly monitors patients’ conditions and changes in relevant indicators, and promptly adjusts treatment plans according to trends in these changes. Appropriate modalities are selected, such as high-flux dialysis, isolated ultrafiltration, adjustable-sodium dialysis, sequential dialysis, and heparin-free dialysis, providing the greatest possible assurance of rational and effective treatment for patients.
The department performs various vascular-access procedures for blood purification, including autologous arteriovenous fistula creation, autologous arteriovenous fistula repair, arteriovenous fistula thrombectomy, and ultrasound- or DSA-guided endovascular angioplasty. It can also perform long-term and temporary central venous catheter placement, effectively maintaining patients’ “lifelines.”
The department’s nurses are highly skilled and proficient in vascular cannulation. They develop systematic cannulation plans for arteriovenous fistulas and have extensive clinical experience in difficult fistula cannulation and in caring for patients with central venous catheters. This extends the service life of patients’ arteriovenous fistulas and long-term central venous catheters, reduces the distress of having to establish a new dialysis access, and provides strong support for patients’ long-term survival.
The center uses advanced technology to comprehensively address the various problems patients encounter during dialysis. It has few adverse reactions and provides high-quality dialysis. With our hearts devoted to patients and their lives depending on our care, the center will continue to uphold the mission of “putting people first and working for patients’ well-being,” continuously improve its medical technology, provide high-quality and convenient dialysis treatment for the many patients it serves, help patients improve their quality of life and longevity, and better support their return to their families and society.
