The First Gynecology Ward of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine is a national key specialty (Twelfth Five-Year Plan development unit), a national key discipline, the leading unit of the Ovarian Premature Failure Clinical Pathway Collaborative Group of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a provincial key discipline, and a Heilongjiang Provincial Leading Talent Echelon. It is a comprehensive gynecology department with distinctive traditional Chinese medicine characteristics. It has successively been awarded the honors of “National Model for Professional Ethics Development,” “Women’s Civilization Post,” “Advanced Collective for Women’s Achievement,” “March 8 Red-Flag Collective,” and “National Excellent Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine Nursing.” This department has a complete complement of professional and technical personnel. Under the leadership of Department Director Professor Cong Huifang, it upholds the principle of “study the classics and practice clinically,” relies on strong technical expertise, takes serving patients as its purpose, and is founded on equal emphasis on virtue and skill. It is committed to the diagnosis, treatment, and research of gynecological diseases with clinical advantages and common diseases. It has distinctive expertise particularly in common difficult-to-treat diseases. For endometriosis, it proposes that “latent cold damages the kidneys, causing stasis and damage to the collaterals” as the key mechanism, and combines acupuncture and medication to relieve pain, assist conception, reduce masses, and prevent recurrence, with significant efficacy; it uses the “harmony” method to treat various syndromes before and after menopause; it independently developed the “surrounding needling method” to tonify the kidneys and nourish the liver in treating vulvar dystrophy; it uses subcutaneous-embedded acupuncture to unblock the channels, removes stasis and resolves phlegm to treat the root, and uses constitution regulation, fat reduction, and health management to eradicate the root, forming a “three-pronged” therapy for polycystic ovary syndrome; it innovatively proposed “deficiency of healthy qi with lingering pathogens” as the basis for treating pelvic inflammatory disease and its sequelae, eliminating longstanding disease and preventing recurrence; meanwhile, for the toxic side effects caused by tumor radiotherapy and chemotherapy, Professor Cong uses the methods of “strengthening healthy qi and eliminating toxins, resolving masses and dispersing nodules,” applying acupuncture and medication together to significantly reduce toxicity and increase efficacy, improve patients’ quality of life, and fully highlight the characteristics and advantages of traditional Chinese medicine. The department further uses clinical practice as a vehicle to drive the coordinated development of clinical care, teaching, and research. In response to clinical treatment difficulties, it diligently seeks ancient teachings, reflects on the classics, and draws on the strengths of many!
