Coloproctology
The Department of Anorectal Surgery of Hangzhou Red Cross Hospital is one of the hospitals in the Hangzhou area that established an anorectal specialty relatively early. It is a vigorous and highly dynamic professional medical team, as well as a modern specialty department for diseases of the anus and large intestine that is among the largest in the city and integrates clinical diagnosis and treatment, research and innovation, and education and training. The department has a well-developed talent structure and outstanding medical expertise. It currently has 15 physicians, including 4 chief physicians, 2 professors, 3 deputy chief physicians, and 1 associate professor; 9 team members hold master's degrees in medicine, with high-level talent supporting the department's high-quality development. The department discharges nearly 7,000 patients annually and performs nearly 5,000 operations each year. The department's team has achieved fruitful results in scientific research, having obtained funding approval and support for more than 10 provincial- and municipal-level projects from the Provincial Health Commission, the Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology, and other organizations. In recent years, it has published more than 40 papers, including more than 30 papers and scholarly works indexed by SCI and Chinese core journals. The Department of Anorectal Surgery currently has two wards, located on the fourth floor of Building 2 and the seventh floor of Building 1, respectively. The ward on the fourth floor of Building 2 has 48 beds, while the ward on the seventh floor of Building 1 has 20 beds, meeting the inpatient needs of different patients. Patients enjoy an elegant inpatient environment, with VIP rooms, single rooms, double rooms, and three-bed rooms available to meet the needs of different individuals. In the diagnosis and treatment of colorectal and anorectal diseases, this specialized disease diagnosis and treatment center adheres to the treatment philosophy of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine and is committed to innovating and promoting painless, minimally invasive treatment technologies, achieving significant clinical results and social benefits. In treating more than 20 anorectal diseases, including hemorrhoids, anal fistula, anal fissure, perianal abscess, colorectal polyps, rectal prolapse, retroperitoneal tumors, rectocele, outlet-obstructive constipation, anal malformations, anal stenosis, constipation, anal cryptitis, and anal papillary fibroma, the department's team fully exploits the advantages of integrated Chinese and Western medicine. Through painless, minimally invasive surgery, together with characteristic integrated Chinese and Western medicine therapies such as oral traditional Chinese medicines, retention enemas, and acupoint application, it provides precise treatment for chronic colorectal diseases and combines the essence of traditional Chinese medicine with modern painless, minimally invasive techniques to provide patients with efficient, high-quality, and personalized diagnostic and treatment services. The department routinely performs advanced procedures including minimally invasive surgery for complex anal fistulas, minimally invasive treatment of circumferential mixed hemorrhoids, stereoscopic minimally invasive fourfold surgery for rectal prolapse, transvaginal repair of rectocele, and radical treatment of pilonidal cysts with rhomboid flap transfer. In the diagnosis and treatment of colorectal polyps and colorectal cancer, the department's team continues to innovate and actively carries out screening for serum markers of colorectal tumors and molecular biological testing methods, achieving early, rapid, and precise diagnosis of colorectal tumors and related diseases. In the surgical treatment of colorectal cancer, the department's team vigorously promotes minimally invasive surgical techniques and has introduced a series of advanced instruments and equipment, including the most advanced Olympus electronic colonoscopes and laparoscopes. A large number of colonoscopic examinations are performed every year, significantly improving the diagnosis and detection rates of colorectal cancer. Using minimally invasive surgical techniques, the department conducts endoscopic minimally invasive treatment, including colonoscopy-guided stent placement for colorectal obstruction; colonoscopic diagnosis and treatment of lower gastrointestinal bleeding; and treatment of benign large-intestinal lesions, early rectal cancer, rectal carcinoid, and other diseases. The main procedures performed are transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM), endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), and endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR/EPMR). These procedures are particularly suitable for lesions such as flat benign colorectal polyps with a diameter greater than 2 cm, early rectal cancer, and rectal carcinoid. They not only reduce surgical trauma but also broaden the population eligible for surgery, making procedures that were formerly highly traumatic and risky more minimally invasive, reliable, and safe. In the treatment of colon and rectal cancer, the department performs large numbers of laparoscopic minimally invasive operations for colorectal cancer each year, as well as anus-preserving surgery for ultra-low rectal cancer, subtotal/total colectomy, transanal surgery for rectal cancer, and total large-intestine resection with ileal pouch-anal anastomosis, significantly improving patient survival and providing patients with comprehensive and precise surgical treatment plans. The department's team not only uses antitumor drugs to control the disease but also combines them with traditional Chinese medicine to promote postoperative recovery and improve treatment outcomes. Through the integrated Chinese and Western medicine treatment model, it has significantly improved patients' survival rates and quality of life. The department's team has achieved fruitful scientific research results and has obtained funding approval and support for multiple provincial- and municipal-level projects from the Provincial Health Commission, the Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology, and other organizations. The accuracy of early diagnosis of colorectal tumors, inflammatory enteritis, and tuberculous intestinal disease has been greatly improved, significantly reducing the rates of clinical misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment. At the same time, the team's innovation and improvement of surgical methods and internal fixation methods have resulted in a complete sequence of surgical procedures, standardized the surgical methods for colorectal tumors, inflammatory enteritis, and perforation caused by tuberculous intestinal disease, among others, and brought the department's overall level to a leading position within the province.
