Neonatology Department (including NICU)
Neonatology (including NICU) I. Department Introduction The Department of Neonatology (including NICU) currently has 240 beds, including 110 NICU beds and 130 neonatology beds (including 100 beds at the Zhujiang New Town Campus, 80 beds at the Children's Hospital Campus, and 60 beds at the Women and Children's Hospital Campus); the area of the premises is more than 4,000 square meters. It has specialized diagnostic, treatment, and laboratory equipment worth nearly RMB 70 million. It has a specialized laboratory. Modern technical facilities for various resuscitation, monitoring, life support, and related research are essentially complete, including: various conventional-frequency ventilators, high-frequency ventilators, CPAP respiratory therapy systems, NO inhalation therapy systems, mild hypothermia therapy systems, multifunctional physiological monitors, pulse oxygen saturation monitors, cerebral function monitors, non-invasive blood pressure monitors, blood-gas and biochemical analyzers, far-infrared resuscitation tables, infusion pumps, blue-light therapy units, infant incubators, emergency transport systems, and so on. Over the past 3 years, more than 100 critically ill neonates on average have been transported by ambulance each year, and the department has admitted more than 7,800 patients on average each year. The #!smallest#! birth weight of a rescued neonate was 600 grams, and the #!smallest#! gestational age was 25 weeks. At present, the department's scale, facilities and equipment, and technical capabilities are recognized by domestic peers as being at the leading level in China. Stable and sustainable research directions that have been established include: clinical management of very-low- and extremely-low-birth-weight infants; a series of studies on brain injury in neonates and preterm infants; a series of studies on neonatal lung injury; and studies on neonatal nutrition and intestinal diseases, among others. II. Technical Features (1) Treatment and management of preterm infants and very-low-birth-weight infants; (2) neonatal endoscopic diagnosis and treatment techniques; (3) simultaneous complete exchange transfusion through peripheral arteries and veins; (4) total parenteral nutrition (hereinafter PN ); (5) transport of critically ill neonates; (6) non-invasive and invasive respiratory support (including CPAP, conventional mechanical ventilation, high-frequency mechanical ventilation, etc.); (7) non-invasive and invasive monitoring of multiple physiological functions: (8) continuous cerebral function monitoring; (9) mild hypothermia therapy; (10) perioperative management of neonates; (1 1) neonatal peritoneal dialysis; (12) neonatal screening for inherited metabolic diseases (13) screening for retinopathy of prematurity; (14) neonatal hearing screening. III. Major Honors Over the past 5 years, the Department of Neonatology (including NICU) has received funding for 7 projects from the Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong Province and the Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Program, and funding for 6 projects from the Guangdong Provincial Department of Health and the Guangzhou Science and Technology Program; it has published more than 70 papers, including 7 papers in SCI-indexed journals and 22 papers in the Chinese Medical Association's Chinese-series journals, edited 2 monographs, served as chief translator for 1 monograph, received 1 Third Prize for a Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Progress Achievement Award, and received 2 Third Prizes for Guangzhou Science and Technology Progress Achievement Awards.
