【Overview】 Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine Pancreatic Center (Pancreatic and Biliary Surgery) was established in 2015. Internationally renowned pancreatic surgery expert Peng Shuyou serves as the center’s chief mentor; renowned senior traditional Chinese medicine physician Cai Bingqin serves as the academic leader; led by Professor Tan Zhijian, a nationally renowned expert in minimally invasive pancreatic surgery, and under the leadership of Director Zhong Xiaosheng, the center has built an internationally renowned, first-rate in China specialized pancreatic surgery team, providing one-stop integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine treatment services for pancreatic tumors, severe acute pancreatitis, biliary tract surgical conditions, and other diseases. 【Department Features】 The center has innovated and led laparoscopic pancreatic surgery, with minimally invasive procedures accounting for 90%. It performed China’s first laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy with combined vascular resection and reconstruction; its original distinctive techniques center on the “Tan’s three-step arterial approach” laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy, LPD-IPDA-first management of the anatomy of the “throat” region, and NO-TOUCH-in situ pancreaticoduodenectomy. In addition, the center performs different types of pancreaticoduodenectomy with combined vascular resection and reconstruction, total pancreatectomy, posterior–caudal approach L-RAMPS procedures, and others. It routinely performs organ-preserving pancreatic surgery, including local tumor resection, total pancreatic head resection preserving the duodenum and bile duct, spleen-preserving resection of the pancreatic body and tail, middle segment pancreatectomy with in situ end-to-end anastomosis, and surgical repair of the pancreatic duct. The center participates in national multicenter clinical trials of laparoscopic surgical treatment for pancreatic tumors. Surgical videos were selected for presentation at the annual meeting of American College of Surgeons, and the center won first place in the national general surgery surgical video competition.
