International Medical Department

The International Medical Department of Guang’anmen Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, was established in June 2009. It serves as the hospital’s window for external medical services and is the first—and also the only—traditional Chinese medicine institution in China to have passed the medical quality accreditation of Bupa, a multinational medical insurance company. The International Medical Department currently receives 8,000–10,000 outpatient visits per year. International patients come from 32 countries and regions, primarily Russia, the United States, Japan, and European Union countries. Nearly one-third of the patients travel specifically from abroad to Guang’anmen Hospital to seek medical services.

The International Medical Department primarily provides healthcare, outpatient, and inpatient medical services for officials and family members of embassies and consulates of various countries in China; entrepreneurs and family members of foreign-funded and Sino-foreign joint venture enterprises; foreign experts and family members who come to China to study or work; foreign guests visiting China for sightseeing and tourism; international medical insurance clients; and domestic commercial health insurance clients. It also undertakes the development of trade in traditional Chinese medicine services. The department participates in the development of traditional Chinese medicine medical tourism in Beijing. In December 2015, it was designated by the Beijing Municipal Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine as the Beijing International Medical Tourism Research Center.
