Wound Repair Ward
The Wound Repair﹒Interventional Ward of the Diamond Bay Campus of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University was established in June 2021 through the merger of the former Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Wound Repair Ward and Interventional Ward, and is currently jointly managed by Director Chu Tongbin and Director Song Lei.
The former ward of the Department of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Wound Repair was the earliest-established and largest specialty in Liaoning Province for the integrated Chinese and Western medicine treatment of diabetic foot. In 2011, with the approval of the Liaoning Provincial Health Department, the “Liaoning Province Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Diabetic Foot Treatment Center” was officially established. In 2012, Academician Fu Xiaobing of the Chinese Academy of Engineering awarded it the title of “China Diabetes-Related Chronic Wound Training Base.” It is a deputy-chairperson institution of the Liaoning Diabetic Foot Alliance.
The former Interventional Department of the Diamond Bay Campus was established in March 2019, with Director Song Lei of the Interventional Department of the main campus serving as its director; the department’s physicians rotate regularly to complete the daily medical work of our campus.
To promote the high-quality development of the hospital, enhance the department’s regional core competitiveness, and take into account the characteristics of the diabetic-foot podiatry specialty, the Wound Repair﹒Interventional Ward was established. This construction model is the first in the three northeastern provinces and the second integrated diabetic-foot podiatry diagnosis and treatment center in China.
At present, the department has 61 active beds, 3 interventional physicians (including 1 physician rotating from the main campus), 3 surgical physicians, 2 internal medicine physicians, and 2 physicians of integrated Chinese and Western medicine. There are 18 nurse practitioners. There is 1 interventional catheterization room, including 1 DSA machine, 1 technician, and 2 nurse practitioners. There are 2 surgical operating rooms. There are 2 dressing rooms.
Department features:
This department is an integrated treatment center for diabetic-foot podiatry combining internal medicine, surgery, interventional medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, and other disciplines. In addition to diabetic foot disease, on the interventional side it is also responsible for VTE prevention and treatment at the Diamond Bay Campus, interventional treatment of tumor diseases, emergency bleeding, and other related diseases. Wound repair treatment also includes nonhealing postoperative incisions, lower-limb arterial (venous) wounds, pressure injuries, chronic osteomyelitis, cancerous ulcers, immune ulcers, bedsores, and so on. At present, surgical treatment of diabetic foot averages more than 100 patient-visits per month, and interventional treatment approximately more than 10 patient-visits.
Integrated diabetic-foot podiatry treatment includes:
1、Lower-extremity arterial interventional treatment: catheter-and-guidewire techniques are used to recanalize the femoral artery, popliteal artery, below-knee arteries, and pedal arch arteries, restore blood supply to the affected area, promote wound healing, and provide essential treatment conditions for other treatment methods. The department is proficient in using drug-coated balloons, Chocolate balloons, cutting balloons, plaque rotational atherectomy systems, AngioJet thrombolysis and thrombectomy systems, etc.;
2、Surgical debridement treatment: surgical debridement is promptly performed for wounds with severe infection, extensive necrosis, and poor drainage;
3、Negative-pressure suction treatment: promotes wound healing and granulation tissue growth and prevents and treats infection, etc.;
4、PRP treatment: platelet-rich plasma extracted from autologous blood is applied to the wound, using growth factors to promote the healing of noninfectious wounds;
5、Arterial microinfusion treatment: drugs that improve microcirculation or promote wound healing are injected through an indwelling needle in the femoral artery, increasing the local drug concentration and improving symptoms;
6、Local hyperbaric oxygen treatment: increases the local oxygen concentration and promotes wound healing;
7、Red light treatment: red-light irradiation promotes wound healing;
8、Traditional Chinese medicine and Chinese medicinal treatment: Qufushengji Ointment is applied externally to promote wound healing. Medical maggot therapy is also used to remove necrotic tissue, promote wound healing, and so on.
9、Pneumatic pump treatment: for venous wounds caused by impaired arterial, especially venous, return, pneumatic treatment can promote blood circulation and accelerate wound healing. At the same time, it helps prevent lower-extremity venous thrombosis in bedridden patients.
