Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Pulmonary Diseases Department
Department development history: In 2007, drawing on previous work experience and combining clinical needs with basic research, the department positioned its development direction as the TCM-characteristic treatment of lung diseases (chronic phase, persistent phase, and remission phase), including cough, asthma, COPD, etc. In 2008, the Key Research Laboratory of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (chronic cough and wheezing of lung diseases) was established. In 2013, on the basis of the key research laboratory, the Second Department of TCM Lung Diseases (Second Department of TCM Respiratory Medicine) was founded, with Professor Li Youlin, director of the key research laboratory (chronic cough and wheezing of lung diseases), serving as department director, further bringing into play the clinical advantages of TCM through innovation in TCM-characteristic treatment methods for lung diseases. When the department was founded, clinical medical work was mainly outpatient and outpatient treatment room work, with Professor Li Youlin leading the experts in consultations. In July 2014, through clinical observation and work summaries, combined with the occurrence, development, and evolution patterns of respiratory diseases, a new idea for the prevention and treatment of allergic diseases with Chinese medicine was proposed, and an application was made to the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission for a 'Beijing Key Laboratory'; after approval it entered the trial construction period. In July 2015, with the strong support and assistance of the hospital, the Second Department of TCM Lung Diseases officially began inpatient work, concretely applying the 'holistic zang-fu syndrome differentiation view with lung and spleen at the core' to the clinical treatment of lung diseases and allergic diseases, achieving good clinical efficacy. At this point, the department's construction trended toward a mature comprehensive department. In December 2017, the Second Department of TCM Lung Diseases (Second Department of TCM Respiratory Medicine) was officially renamed the Second Division of TCM Lung Diseases, and officially became a component of our hospital's Respiratory Center, fully coordinating with other divisions of the Respiratory Center to undertake the hospital's medical, educational, and research work for respiratory diseases, contributing to building our hospital's Respiratory Center into a leading unit in the field of respiratory disease prevention and treatment in China.
