Neurosurgery.
The Department of Neurosurgery was established in 1958 and is one of the earliest neurosurgery specialties founded in China. Under the leadership of older-generation neurosurgical experts such as Tang Jin, Chai Wanxing, Song Zunwu, Chen Kefu, Wang Guangdi, Ma Jichao and Liu Cang, the department has developed profound professional expertise and distinctive diagnostic and therapeutic features. At present, Professor Zhao Jizong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, serves as a specially appointed professor of the department, providing guidance in medical innovation, scientific research, and teaching and training, and leading the development and progress in fields such as geriatric craniocerebral diseases, neurovascular diseases, hemiplegia, brain-computer interfaces and neurological function repair.
After more than 70 years of development, the department has accumulated rich treatment experience and enjoys a good professional reputation. The department is equipped with high-performance surgical microscopes (Zeiss, Leica, etc.), a 4K endoscopic system, a 3D exoscope, a stereotactic apparatus, a DSA angiography machine and intraoperative electrophysiological monitoring equipment. The department has a hybrid operating room for vascular diseases as well as innovative equipment for spinal cord and spine diseases, enabling simultaneous lesion resection and spinal internal fixation.
The department routinely performs precise minimally invasive treatment of cerebrovascular and spinal vascular diseases, brain and spinal cord tumors, spinal cord and spine diseases, degenerative diseases, functional diseases and craniocerebral trauma, and has formed distinctive features in the following fields.
Sacral canal cysts: The department possesses an MRI-based clinical classification that accurately predicts nerve root reconstruction, and through minimally invasive treatment is committed to the reduction and reconstruction of the posterior wall of the sacral canal, and has innovatively developed implantable instruments and an artificial-intelligence-operated robotic arm.
Cerebrovascular and spinal vascular diseases: The department excels in comprehensive treatment combining interventional and open minimally invasive approaches, covering cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, cerebral artery stenosis and moyamoya disease, etc.
Brain and spinal cord tumors: Minimally invasive surgery plays an important role in the treatment of brain gliomas, meningiomas, pituitary tumors, etc., with expertise in petroclival region tumors, resection of functional-area brain tumors and skull base reconstruction.
Geriatric craniocerebral diseases: For chronic subdural hematoma, brain metastases, Parkinson's syndrome, etc., the department carries out a multidisciplinary team consultation and collaboration model to comprehensively improve patients' quality of life and prognosis.
Degenerative spinal cord and spine diseases: For cervical spondylosis, lumbar disc herniation, etc., minimally invasive concepts are applied to improve functional abnormalities such as neck and shoulder pain, lumbosacral pain and numbness of the limbs.
Neurological functional diseases: Methods such as microvascular decompression, radiofrequency ablation and spinal cord electrical stimulation are used to treat epilepsy, trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm, etc.
Craniocerebral trauma: The department focuses on emergency surgery, treatment of neurocritical illnesses, coma arousal, and management of complications such as cranioplasty and hydrocephalus shunting.
