Rheumatology and Immunology

The Department of Rheumatology and Immunology of Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated with Xiamen University was established in 2013. It is one of the earliest rheumatology and immunology specialties in Fujian Province to have independent outpatient and inpatient departments, integrating medical care, teaching, scientific research, clinical drug trials, and chronic disease management. It is currently a council member unit of the Chinese Rheumatology and Immunology Disease Medical Consortium Alliance and a member unit of the National Rheumatology Data Center. In both the 2016 China Hospital Science and Technology Influence Ranking and the 2020 Ailibi China Hospital Competitiveness Ranking, it ranked third in Fujian Province in the disciplines of rheumatology and autoimmune diseases. The scope of diagnosis and treatment includes: 1. Standardized diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory joint diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and psoriatic arthritis; 2. Comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of systemic rheumatic and immune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjögren syndrome, systemic sclerosis, idiopathic inflammatory myopathies, systemic vasculitis, and Behçet disease; 3. Diagnosis and treatment of rare rheumatic and immune diseases such as adult-onset Still’s disease and IgG4-related disease; 4. Screening, evaluation, and comprehensive management of rheumatic disease-associated interstitial lung disease; 5. Diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of metabolic and degenerative diseases such as gout, osteoarthritis, and osteoporosis; 6. Diagnosis and treatment and health management of chronic rheumatic diseases such as fibromyalgia syndrome, among others. The department attaches great importance to the comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of complex, severe, and refractory rheumatic and immune diseases, and routinely performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as arthrocentesis, labial gland biopsy, and synovial biopsy. In 2018, it passed the qualification accreditation for national drug clinical trial institutions, and has now completed the professional filing of the drug clinical trial institution in accordance with regulations, with relatively extensive experience in drug clinical trial research. The department has long conducted health education, disease science popularization, special lectures, health salons, and large-scale free medical consultations, and carries out continuing health education and chronic disease management through internet platforms. It has obtained 2 provincial natural science foundation projects and 2 municipal scientific research foundation projects, and undertakes relevant teaching tasks for Xiamen University School of Medicine and Xiamen Medical College. The department currently has 12 physicians, including 8 with senior professional titles, 5 doctoral degree holders, 5 master’s degree holders, and 4 talents recruited by Xiamen City. The academic leader is Chief Physician Xue Yuan, a master’s supervisor; the current department head is Associate Chief Physician Wei Bo, a visiting scholar at Peking University People’s Hospital. Team members hold positions such as deputy chairpersons, executive committee members, committee members, and youth committee members in relevant provincial and municipal professional societies. The nursing team currently has 15 members, including 1 with a master’s degree, 5 qualified as Level-2 nutritionists, and 1 specialist nurse in wound, ostomy, and continence care. The team can provide patients with high-quality, continuous, comprehensive holistic nursing and health management services. The inpatient department is located on the 17th floor of Building 3; the outpatient department is located in Zone B on the 2nd floor of Building 7.
