Rheumatology and Immunology
The department has long been committed to the diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic and immune diseases using both traditional Chinese and Western medicine. It is an integrated Chinese-Western medicine clinical department with distinctive traditional Chinese medicine characteristics. It previously served as the unit of the Chairperson of the Zhejiang Provincial Immunology Disease Committee and as a national clinical pharmacology base specializing in rheumatic and immune diseases. It is currently a key rheumatology specialty designated by the Zhejiang Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the unit of the Chairperson of the Rheumatology Branch of the Zhejiang Association of Chinese Medicine.
The department currently has 1 supervising teacher for the academic experience inheritance program of national veteran traditional Chinese medicine experts, Fifth and Seventh Cohorts; 2 chief physicians, 2 deputy chief physicians, 5 attending physicians, 4 resident physicians, and more than 20 specialist nurses. All doctors in the department have a master's degree in medicine or higher, including 8 with doctoral degrees. The department has extensive experience in the integrated Chinese-Western medicine diagnosis and treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, Sjögren syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus, gouty arthritis, polymyalgia rheumatica, Behçet disease, scleroderma, inflammatory myopathy, and difficult, critical rheumatic diseases.
Technical Advantages
The department routinely performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as joint-cavity puncture and irrigation, sacroiliac joint puncture, minimally invasive painless labial gland biopsy, and evaluation of sarcopenia associated with rheumatic bone diseases. It offers distinctive traditional Chinese medicine therapies, including wax therapy, traditional Chinese medicine paste application, traditional Chinese medicine fumigation, ultrasound drug delivery, medicinal cupping, Governor Vessel moxibustion, acupoint paste application, and ear acupoint pressure bead therapy. In addition, BD Herbal Mouthwash and Scleroderma Hand Mask Cream No. 1 are traditional Chinese medicine preparations specially developed by the department. They have obtained national patents and have demonstrated good efficacy in treating recurrent oral ulcers and skin sclerosis in scleroderma.
