Ultrasound Medicine
The Department of Ultrasound Medicine of Zhejiang Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine was established in the 1970s. It is a comprehensive ultrasound medicine center integrating ultrasound diagnosis with minimally invasive ultrasound-guided interventional treatment. The department currently has more than 40 staff members, including 1 chief physician, 4 deputy chief physicians, and more than 10 staff members with master's degrees. It performs more than 350,000 examinations annually, including nearly 2,000 ultrasound contrast examinations, and performs more than 4,000 interventional procedures annually. It is currently equipped with more than 30 high-end color Doppler ultrasound systems and has advanced technical software for three-dimensional ultrasound, contrast-enhanced ultrasound, elastography, virtual navigation, and other applications. The department's members possess excellent technical expertise and comprehensively perform all routine ultrasound examinations, including abdominal ultrasound, obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound, thyroid and breast ultrasound, cardiac ultrasound, peripheral vascular ultrasound, urogenital ultrasound, intracavitary ultrasound, ultrasound-guided interventions, and minimally invasive tumor treatment. The department undertakes the teaching of ultrasound-related courses for the Medical Imaging and Clinical Medicine programs of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University. It is also an Excellent Training Base for Ultrasound Contrast Enhancement in Zhejiang Province and is at the leading level within the province in clinical care, teaching, and scientific research.
Technical Advantages
The department has established 6 subspecialty groups to provide precise and individualized diagnosis and treatment. Its specialties include multimodal ultrasound diagnosis and minimally invasive treatment of difficult thyroid diseases; one-stop ultrasound diagnosis of the pelvic floor in obstetrics and gynecology; multimodal ultrasound diagnosis and minimally invasive treatment of breast diseases; ultrasound diagnosis and treatment of difficult diseases in urology and andrology; lung and critical-care ultrasound; musculoskeletal and superficial ultrasound and minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment; minimally invasive ablation treatment of tumors in solid organs (liver, lung, lymph nodes, superficial soft tissues, and uterus); and contrast-enhanced ultrasound of organs throughout the body.
Academic Standing
As one of the earliest-established ultrasound departments in Zhejiang Province, the Department of Ultrasound Medicine of our hospital has undergone decades of development. It was among the first institutions in the province to implement technologies such as contrast-enhanced ultrasound, three-dimensional ultrasound, and interventional ultrasound. It is also an Excellent Training Base for Ultrasound Contrast Enhancement in Zhejiang Province. The department provides counterpart support to more than 10 primary hospitals, promotes the standardized and homogeneous development of ultrasound diagnosis and treatment in Zhejiang Province, and has become a regionally leading ultrasound medicine center by virtue of its pioneering technologies, scientific research productivity, and participation in the formulation of standards.
Research Achievements
In recent years, the department has undertaken more than 10 provincial- and department/bureau-level scientific research projects, including more than 10 SCI-indexed papers and 2 copyrights. It has obtained more than 10 national invention patents and participated in compiling more than 10 monographs. The academic leader has received one Second Prize of the Zhejiang Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award and one First Prize of the Hangzhou Employee Technology Innovation Achievement Award. The academic leader took the lead in the Expert Consensus on the Anatomical Location Classification and Risk Prevention and Control of Thermal Ablation for Benign Thyroid Nodules (2020), participated in the Expert Consensus on Chemical Ablation of Uterine Fibroids (2022) and the Expert Consensus on Ultrasound Diagnosis, Classification, and Interventional Treatment of Tuberculous Pleuritis (2022 Edition), and obtained 10 utility-model invention patents in the field of minimally invasive tumor treatment using interventional ultrasound. The department has 2 copyrights and 10 papers published in SCI-indexed journals and the Chinese Medical Association journal series, has led 6 provincial and department-level projects, has served as deputy editor-in-chief or contributed to 8 monographs, and undertakes ultrasound medicine teaching for the Medical Imaging program and other clinical programs of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University.
