Nuclear Medicine
The Department of Nuclear Medicine of Zhejiang Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine was established in 2008. It is a member unit of the Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Molecular Imaging, a council member unit of the Yangtze River Delta Molecular Imaging Center and a council member unit of the Zhejiang Provincial Alliance of Specialized Nuclear Medicine Therapy. The department mainly carries out radionuclide imaging and radionuclide therapy and is responsible for the teaching of nuclear medicine at Zhejiang Chinese Medical University.
The Department of Nuclear Medicine possesses internationally leading equipment, including the Siemens Biograph mCT flow PET/CT scanner and GE SPECT and SPECT/CT scanners. Adhering to the service philosophy of “eyes as bright as a torch, medical imaging always with you”, the department is committed to using advanced modern medical imaging equipment for disease diagnosis, organ function assessment and disease metabolism research, providing practical and reliable medical imaging evidence for clinical diagnosis and treatment.
Technical Advantages
The Department of Nuclear Medicine has carried out PET/CT diagnosis for nearly 9 years and can provide important imaging value for the diagnosis, staging, efficacy evaluation, prognosis assessment and recurrence monitoring of tumors; PET/CT can also be used for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of autoimmune diseases and infectious diseases; in recent years PET/CT has shown its unique application value in nervous system diseases, being mainly used for the diagnosis and exclusion of degenerative encephalopathies such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease, and of ischemic-hypoxic encephalopathy. Unlike other anatomical images, PET/CT images are functional and metabolic images that can reflect the pathological and physiological processes of disease in vivo, and are praised as “transparent pathology”.
The Department of Nuclear Medicine carries out a number of radionuclide therapies, including traditional nuclear medicine treatment items such as iodine-131 (131I) therapy for hyperthyroidism, strontium-89 (89Sr) therapy for metastatic bone tumors, iodine-125 (125I) seed implantation for solid tumors, phosphorus-32 (32P) application therapy for various skin diseases, and Yunke therapy for various osteoarticular diseases. Following the frontiers of the discipline, the department has launched a number of new radionuclide therapy projects, including 177Lu-PSMA-RLT for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC), radium-223 (223Ra) for bone metastases of prostate cancer, and yttrium-90 (90Y) microsphere therapy for liver tumors.
Academic Standing
The department is responsible for the teaching of multiple courses in the Medical Imaging specialty and the Medical Imaging Technology specialty of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University.
Research Achievements
To date, more than 30 medical papers have been published, including more than 10 SCI papers, with the highest impact factor of a single paper reaching 7.034. The department has led a number of provincial and ministerial-level projects and participated in several national and provincial-ministerial research projects. It has participated in the compilation of 2 undergraduate textbooks and published 2 teaching papers.
