Geriatric Medicine

The Department of Geriatric Medicine of Zhejiang Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine was established in 1986. It is the lead department of the Geriatric Multimorbidity Working Group of the Zhejiang Provincial Collaborative Guidance Center for TCM-Western Medicine in Chronic Disease Prevention and Control, and is a construction department for the “Yang’s TCM Internal Medicine Academic School Studio,” the “Xu Zhiying National Famous TCM Physician Inheritance Studio,” and the “Pan Zhimin National Famous TCM Physician Inheritance Studio.” The department currently consists of multidisciplinary teams from cardiology, respiratory medicine, neurology, TCM internal medicine and other specialties. It is committed to the collaborative TCM-Western medicine diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases and geriatric syndromes, maintaining and improving the health status of older friends to the greatest extent, extending healthy life expectancy, and improving the quality of life of older adults. The department has devoted itself deeply to the prevention and treatment of geriatric diseases through TCM-Western medicine collaboration. It is the lead unit for standards in many domestic fields of collaborative TCM-Western medicine diagnosis and treatment of geriatric diseases, and is a leading unit in the core technology of comprehensive geriatric assessment in the field of geriatric medicine. It was the first in China to integrate the multidimensional core technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic diseases in older adults, geriatric syndromes, and geriatric diseases in TCM, forming a new model of collaborative TCM-Western medicine geriatric health services from a “whole-person” perspective.
