Oncology Department (Radiation Oncology)
The Department of Oncology (Radiotherapy) of Zhejiang Hospital is a geriatric medicine subspecialty in geriatric oncology cultivated through joint development by the national and provincial authorities, a key oncology construction specialty in Zhejiang Province, and a key discipline of the hospital. It is the institution serving as the chairing unit of the Radiotherapy Academic Division of the Oncology Prevention and Treatment Branch of the Chinese Association of Geriatric Research, and as the deputy chairing unit of the Oncology Hyperthermia Specialty Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (CACA) and the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO). It is also the chairing unit of the Geriatric Oncology Specialty Committee and the Tumor Physical Therapy Specialty Committee of the Zhejiang Anti-Cancer Association. The department is a distinctive, comprehensive oncology diagnosis and treatment specialty with leading overall strength in Zhejiang Province, integrating medical care, teaching, and scientific research.
The department's Lingyin and Sandun campuses develop collaboratively. It has 112 authorized beds and has established a high-end, advanced-concept Radiation Oncology Center and Tumor Thermophysical Therapy Center. Its facilities include one of the medical linear accelerator systems with the highest single-machine configuration in Zhejiang Province—the Elekta Infinity™ high-end medical linear accelerator system; the globally leading Sentinel/Catalyst optical surface-tracking system for radiotherapy; the first Monaco® cloud-platform radiotherapy treatment-planning system in the province; the RayStation radiotherapy treatment-planning system; the IBA three-dimensional beam analysis system and four-dimensional radiotherapy verification system; the N9000 high-power tumor microwave hyperthermia system; the NRL-004 radiofrequency deep hyperthermia system; and the province's first space-capsule whole-body infrared hyperthermia system, along with a range of other internationally top-tier tumor treatment and quality-control equipment. After decades of accumulation and development, the department has established a comprehensive whole-course management model for cancer as a chronic disease, covering cancer diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and follow-up. It routinely conducts multidisciplinary comprehensive oncology diagnosis and treatment (MDT) and has developed distinctive oncology diagnosis and treatment techniques represented by radiotherapy-based multimodal physical therapy and its combined applications. The team for peritoneal metastasis from appendiceal tumors was approved as a “Small but Strong” innovative team in Zhejiang Province. For patients, the department formulates and implements standardized, individualized cancer treatment plans that include precision radiotherapy, chemotherapy, molecular targeted therapy, immunotherapy, thermophysical therapy (whole-body hyperthermia, microwave therapy, deep hyperthermia, and intraperitoneal hyperthermic perfusion therapy), interventional therapy, and traditional Chinese medicine treatment. The main conditions treated include prostate cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, hepatobiliary malignancies, gynecologic tumors, urological tumors, head and neck tumors, bone and soft-tissue sarcomas, and pediatric tumors.
