Critical Care Medicine Center
The Critical Care Medicine Center of Zhejiang Hospital was established in 1988 and is one of the first comprehensive critical care medicine departments established in China, as well as the first of its kind in Zhejiang Province. It is currently a National Clinical Key Specialty, a Key Medical Discipline and a Supporting Discipline of Zhejiang Province. It is also affiliated with the Zhejiang Provincial ICU Quality Control Center and serves as the Zhejiang Provincial Clinical Research Center for Critical Care Medicine and the Zhejiang Provincial Engineering Research Center for Innovative Diagnostic and Treatment Technologies in Critical Care Medicine. It is a provincial-level technical training base for mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), critical care ultrasound, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and several other technologies, as well as the Zhejiang Provincial Training Base for Specialized Adult ICU Nurses.
The Center has two campuses, Lingyin and Sandun, with 53 open beds (24 at Lingyin and 29 at Sandun), and possesses a leading ICU Internet of Things and smart critical care decision-making system in Zhejiang Province. As one of the earliest institutions in China to develop critical care informatization, the department is actively promoting the development and application of an artificial intelligence-assisted decision-making platform, with the aim of improving the level of critical care diagnosis, treatment and management through intelligent means. It is equipped with advanced monitoring modules, including a central monitoring system, PICCO, EEG and NMT. Each bed is equipped as standard with a ventilator, an infusion management system and an enteral nutrition pump. The department also has high-end equipment including ECMO, blood gas analyzers, hemoperfusion machines, an artificial liver support system, electrical impedance tomography (EIT) and sublingual microcirculation monitoring (SDF), and is proficient in performing core technologies such as hemodynamic monitoring, percutaneous tracheostomy, bronchoscopic treatment, bedside CRRT, artificial liver support, bedside ultrasound and ECMO.
The Center is primarily responsible for the resuscitation, observation, treatment and nursing of critically ill patients throughout the hospital, covering acute myocardial infarction, acute left heart failure, severe arrhythmias, various types of shock, acute respiratory failure, ARDS, massive cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage, traumatic brain injury, severe trauma and emergency conditions after major surgery, severe infection and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), among others. It has distinctive expertise in the management of multiple organ failure in older adults, standardized treatment of septic shock, early warning of sepsis, hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical ventilation, nutritional therapy and bedside hemofiltration. In particular, it has accumulated extensive experience in the comprehensive management of critically ill older patients.
