Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Shanghai University of TCM
The Department of Cardiovascular Medicine was formally established in 1996 and, from the day of its establishment, has adhered to the principle of “enabling patients to receive, at the same time, standardized first-class Western medical treatment and first-class traditional Chinese medical treatment.” In recent years, it has carried out coronary angiography, coronary angioplasty and stent implantation, renal artery angiography and stent implantation, permanent pacemaker implantation, cardiac resynchronization pacemaker implantation, radiofrequency ablation, IABP and other surgical treatments, as well as electrophysiological examinations. More than 600 coronary angioplasty procedures are performed each year, including the rescue of more than 100 patients with acute myocardial infarction, and large numbers of patients with acute myocardial infarction and severe heart failure have been successfully rescued; the pacemaker implantation program performs more than 100 pacemaker implantations each year and has successfully rescued large numbers of patients with bradycardia; these are all important rescue and treatment methods in cardiology.
Through long-term clinical practice, it has continually achieved breakthroughs in the clinical efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine in treating coronary heart disease, acute coronary syndrome, arrhythmias, heart failure, hypertension and other diseases, and has developed and compiled a series of specialized medicines and distinctive therapies. It has distinctive traditional Chinese medicine formulas including the Dan Zhi Jiang Ya series of formulas, Gengnian Pingmai Decoction, Fumai Decoctions No. 1 and No. 2, and Myocarditis Formulas No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3; for many years, the department has consistently used herbal paste formulas to regulate the constitutions of cardiovascular patients. There are currently three experts seeing patients in the herbal-paste outpatient clinic, all of whom are associate chief physicians or above. In 2015, it was named the most popular specialty department with distinctive features, became a key department of Yueyang Hospital, and received the President’s Commendation in 2015; it is also one of the important centers for the diagnosis and treatment of severe and critical cardiovascular diseases and related research in Shanghai’s Hongkou District.
