Transfusion Medicine
The Department of Blood Transfusion was established in 1997 and is responsible for the clinical use of blood, blood-group identification, difficult crossmatching, and other work for the hospital’s more than 1,000 beds, with annual blood use of nearly 20,000 units. At present, the department has 12 staff members, including 1 with a doctoral degree, 3 with master’s degrees, and 8 with bachelor’s degrees; 3 of them hold senior professional titles. The Department of Blood Transfusion has repeatedly been named an advanced unit for clinical transfusion work in Beijing; its level of autologous transfusion ranks among the highest in Beijing; in recent years, the department has carried out card-based anti-human-globulin crossmatching tests, prenatal irregular-antibody screening tests for pregnant and postpartum women, platelet antibody testing, compatible transfusion for patients with positive irregular-antibody screens in the Rh blood group system, and other services. In particular, the application of the transfusion management information system is ahead of the level of comparable hospitals in China, and the department has passed the national HIMSS Level 7 assessment.
As healthcare has developed, transfusion therapy has been used increasingly widely in clinical practice. In April 2019, the outpatient clinic of the Department of Blood Transfusion was officially established to address practical difficulties for clinicians and patients, achieving very good results.
