Rheumatology, Immunology and Allergy Department
The Department of Rheumatology and Immunology–Allergy of Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University, is one of the earliest departments established in China specializing primarily in the study of rheumatic and allergic diseases and integrating clinical care, teaching, and scientific research. It is a National Clinical Drug Trial Research Center, a Clinical Teaching Base of Capital Medical University, a Beijing Standardized Training Base for Residents, a Phase II Rheumatology Professional Assessment Center for the standardized training of residents under the Beijing Municipal Hospital Administration, a Standardized Diagnosis and Treatment Center for Gout of the Chinese Physicians Alliance, and a collaborative base for the diagnosis and treatment of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis under the Ministry of Health’s “Healthcare Quality Improvement Campaign.”
The department comprises two specialties (rheumatology and allergy). The rheumatology specialty has a high level of expertise and capability in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjögren syndrome, systemic vasculitis, rheumatoid arthritis, and various other joint diseases. Relying on the national platforms for neurology and geriatric medicine at Xuanwu Hospital, our department focuses on rheumatic diseases involving the nervous system and osteoarticular diseases in older adults as its core areas of development. It is particularly experienced in the diagnosis, treatment, and patient management of lupus encephalopathy, nervous system involvement in Sjögren syndrome, systemic vasculitis, hyperuricemia, gout, and other diseases. The allergy specialty consists of a medical team with extensive clinical experience and integrates clinical diagnosis and treatment with allergen testing. For common allergic diseases, including allergic conjunctivitis, allergic rhinitis, allergic asthma, atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, urticaria, food allergy, and drug allergy, it provides patients with disease consultation, condition assessment, allergen testing, medication guidance, and other services.
Our department currently has 10 physicians, including 2 chief physicians and 3 associate chief physicians. In addition, there are 9 nurses and 2 medical technicians. There are 20 available inpatient beds. We will uphold the department motto of “unity, practicality, rigor, and innovation,” follow the principle of “regarding the department as our home and treating patients as family,” carry forward our fine traditions, and have the courage to develop and innovate, thereby contributing to the advancement of rheumatology and allergy nationwide.
