In recent years, it has undertaken or completed more than 10 national- and autonomous-region-level research projects, including 4 National Natural Science Foundation of China projects, 2 projects of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 2 projects under science-and-technology assistance to Xinjiang programs, and 11 autonomous-region natural science projects. It has published approximately 100 related academic papers, including 7 indexed in SCI and 35 papers in core journals. It has completed more than 10 academic clinical treatises on integrated Chinese and Western medicine. The Department of Encephalopathy consists of Zone I and Zone II and has domestically advanced diagnostic equipment, including dual-source spiral CT, 3.0-T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), angiography and digital subtraction angiography (DSA), neurophysiological testing (such as ambulatory EEG and brainstem evoked potentials), vestibular function testing, and biochemical, immunological, pathological, and other equipment, providing an accurate basis for diagnosing common and difficult-to-diagnose diseases of the nervous system. Conditions treated by the department include cerebrovascular diseases, vertigo, headache, epilepsy, peripheral neuropathies, infectious diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, and others. The encephalopathy specialty has distinctive characteristics in integrated Chinese and Western medicine diagnosis and treatment. For common neurological diseases, it uses integrated Chinese and Western medicine, combining oral and external treatments, and provides distinctive therapies such as acupuncture, rehabilitation, physical therapy, cupping, topical application of Chinese herbal medicines, Chinese herbal medicine packs, Chinese herbal fumigation and washing, auricular acupressure with seeds, and acupoint application, achieving significant clinical efficacy. The department actively operates a green channel for the diagnosis and treatment of acute cerebral infarction. It conducts multidisciplinary joint consultations with the emergency center, Department of Neurosurgery, Department of Radiology, Department of Laboratory Medicine, cardiovascular and endocrinology departments, and others, maximizing prompt active intervention for patients with acute cerebral infarction and helping them achieve the best possible prognosis and outcome. The department runs a memory clinic and was the first in Xinjiang to establish a neuropsychological assessment room, providing early screening for patients with cognitive impairment; it runs a stroke-screening clinic to strengthen out-of-hospital stroke prevention and management for discharged patients; it also has a specialist clinic for Parkinson's disease, which uses individualized and standardized plans to improve patients' symptoms and manage related complications. The specialist vertigo clinic provides centralized care for patients with vertigo, has comprehensive equipment for vertigo examinations, develops systematic and individualized diagnostic and treatment plans, actively seeks and treats the causes, and minimizes or eliminates vertigo attacks to the greatest extent possible. In recent years, with the support and development platform provided by experts assisting Xinjiang, and through cooperation with multiple national-level hospitals in mainland China, the department has improved the diagnosis of various difficult neurological diseases, enabled many difficult cases from across Xinjiang to receive definitive diagnoses, and greatly enhanced its specialist diagnostic capabilities and level.
