Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region
The Department of Hematology of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, also known as the Affiliated Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Xinjiang Medical University, is the only department in Xinjiang that treats and conducts research on hematological diseases using traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine. It is a key collaborating department of the Hematology Department of Xiyuan Hospital of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, a key specialty designated by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and is one of the member institutions of the China Hematology Alliance. The Department of Hematology of our hospital was founded in 1978 by Director Wang Xiuhua. It began providing TCM and integrated traditional Chinese and Western medical treatment for anemia, hemorrhagic diseases, and leukemia. In the 1980s, under the leadership of Director Song Hongkui, the entire medical and nursing staff made considerable progress in the integrated treatment of aplastic anemia and hemorrhagic diseases, gradually establishing an advantage in TCM treatment. In 2003, under the leadership of Director Bai Yusheng, through the joint efforts of all department staff, further progress was made in the TCM and integrated treatment of hematopoietic failure disorders, such as aplastic anemia and myelodysplastic syndromes. In-depth research was conducted on the TCM and integrated treatment of hemorrhagic diseases, especially immune thrombocytopenia and allergic purpura. While achieving good clinical efficacy, the department established an advantage in TCM treatment throughout Xinjiang. The range of hematological malignancies treated with traditional Chinese and Western medicine was gradually expanded, and approaches to the TCM and integrated treatment of acute and chronic leukemia, multiple myeloma, lymphoma, and other diseases were initiated.
Through the joint efforts of several generations of medical personnel in the Department of Hematology, the department has made rapid progress in recent years. The Department of Hematology currently has 31 available beds, admits nearly 2,500 inpatients annually, has a bed occupancy rate of nearly 200%, and sees approximately 15,000 outpatients per year. There are currently 26 medical and nursing staff members, including 10 physicians, 4 chief physicians, 3 associate chief physicians, and 3 attending physicians, forming a TCM and integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine diagnosis and treatment team with a sound structure and extensive experience. There are currently 16 nursing staff members, including 8 nurse supervisors, 7 registered nurses, and 1 nurse, forming a hematology nursing team with a sound structure, extensive nursing experience, and proficient technical skills.
In recent years, the department has established good academic exchange platforms and mutual support with hematology departments of major hospitals throughout China and within Xinjiang, established a platform for sharing hematological disease diagnosis and treatment resources, and strengthened exchanges and learning with leading disciplines in mainland China. From 2005 to 2012, it received assistance from the Institute (Hospital) of Hematology of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College. Personnel were continuously selected to undertake further training and study at Peking Union Medical College Hospital and the Institute of Hematology of Peking Union Medical College, strengthening the development of the department’s professional workforce.
